Walk-in Wardrobes in Old Oak Common

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on walk-in wardrobes in Old Oak Common starts with a design visit, and everything is made in our workshop.

  • A side each for a couple
  • Turning a box room into a dressing room
  • A built-in dressing table

Looking after your furniture

New paint needs time to cure fully, so go gently with it for a while. Beyond that, these tips help:

  • Count your coats and long garments
  • Have damp sorted before fitting
  • Count your shoes before the design visit
  • Talk to your electrician early about lighting

If a hand-painted door gets a knock, it can be touched in. A spray finish gives a smooth surface that wipes clean.

Talk to your electrician early about lighting. New lights and wiring are for them, and the units can be designed around the lighting.

How we make walk-in wardrobes for Old Oak Common

A box room is often too small for a bed but just right for a dressing room. Fitted out from wall to wall, it can take the clothes that crowd the bedroom, leaving the bedroom with more space. We plan the layout so you can stand, turn and see everything. If you are living with a bedroom without crowded wardrobes and room for a growing wardrobe, walk-in wardrobes made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish can solve it.

In a compact bedroom, the swing of hinged doors can clash with the bed, so the layout and the kind of door are worked out together. Around Old Oak Common, many homes date from 2000 onwards, and newer bedrooms tend to be on the small side. We measure the space in front as well as the wall.

A written quote follows the design visit. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish, so it’s clear what’s included.

FAQs: walk-in wardrobes in Old Oak Common

Can you make walk-in wardrobes for a home in Old Oak Common?

Yes, we work across Hammersmith and Fulham, Old Oak Common included, and across the rest of London. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit.

I live in a flat in Old Oak Common. How will the furniture get up the stairs?

At the design visit, we measure the way in as well as the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room.

My walls are not straight. Is that a problem?

That’s normal in older homes, and it is what scribing is for. We scribe the edges to follow the wall and set the furniture level on adjustable feet or a plinth.

Does a walk-in wardrobe need air flow?

Yes, it helps avoid condensation and mould. We design the units to let air move, and any damp on the walls should be sorted before fitting.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch.

Doors and drawer fronts

We can include a dressing table with drawers where there is space.

Shelves suit folded clothes, bags and boxes. Each shelf is sized for its load.

How fitting day works

Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it’s going into, and fitting day is where that happens. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, closing the gaps a standard unit would leave. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Newer developments sometimes have their own parking and loading rules, so it is useful to let us know during the design visit. The furniture comes in sections and is fixed in place. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about your clothes, shoes and bags and how you get ready.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and plan hanging lengths, shelves, drawers and shoe storage with you.
  3. A written quote follows, setting out the layout, materials and finish.
  4. We build the carcasses, shelves and drawers in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the units in your home, then put in the rails, shelves and drawers at the heights we agreed.

Preparing the room

  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Keep pets in another room while we work

Ask for a quote

Getting a quote starts with a few details: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of photos if you can take them. When you’re ready, send us a few details through our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and go through the design, then send a written quote.

Advice

Flats, leases and landlords

For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants. An agent can arrange access for you.

If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways as well as the room, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through.

Old Oak Common homes and walk-in wardrobes

In the area around Old Oak Common, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 42%) and before 1919 (about 32%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. That matters for walk-in wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Part of Old Oak Common is in a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. About 44% of households in the streets around Old Oak Common live in purpose-built flats, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Building management rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours are worth checking early.

The wider area includes historic houses such as Kelmscott House, about 2.5 miles south. If your own home is a period one, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design. If you live near Little Wormwood Scrubs, a bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls. If your children go to Old Oak Primary School or a school nearby, the inside of walk-in wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow.
