Fitted home offices in Osterley, Hounslow

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make fitted home offices for homes in Osterley, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • Paperwork and files with nowhere to go
  • Shelving that bows under the load
  • Glare from a window on the screen

What affects the price in Osterley

A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:

  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • How square the room is
  • Parking near your home
  • Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls

Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design.

Helping us understand the room

Getting some details early makes the visit more useful. Where you can, include:

  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • Where you live, with the postcode

You do not need exact measurements to get started. Everything is measured properly when we visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To get started, tell us about the room on our contact form and let us know about the room. The written quote follows the visit.

Fitted home offices in Osterley

Everything in a home office starts with the desk. It’s made at a height and depth to suit you and the way you work, with storage below where it helps. Shelving and cupboards can then be built around it. The design visit in Osterley is where these choices are made. We make home offices from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and the usual reasons to get in touch are shelves that sag under books and files and a guest room that’s needed for work.

With interwar houses or semis a big part of the picture around Osterley, if the loft has been converted, the space under the eaves can take a desk and storage. We build in lofts that are already converted or boarded. Elsewhere, an alcove beside a chimney breast or a bay can take a desk.

If the job needs another trade, like an electrician or a plumber, we will tell you. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

Looking after your furniture

The finish lasts best with a little care, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. Here are our suggestions:

  • Let us know about parking near your home
  • Decide how much should be open shelving and how much behind doors
  • Think about what will sit on the shelves
  • Let us know about every device that needs a home

Wiping the desk and fronts with a soft, damp cloth is normally all they need. Avoid scourers and harsh cleaners. The desk edge is touched most, so give it a wipe now and then.

Keep heavy loads on the shelves meant for them. We size shelves for what you told us they’d carry. Spread heavy books and files evenly.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, as it makes good use of an awkward room. It is made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, finished by spray or by hand.

If the property is let, we’ll need access agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.

From workshop to your room

When the fitting is done, we tidy the room. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together and explain how to look after the paint. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. In a 1920s or 1930s house, the hall and stairs are typically simple, but the route in is still measured, not just the room. Home offices arrive in sections and are assembled in place, with floors protected throughout.

  1. First we hear about your work and the room you have in mind.
  2. At the design visit, the room is measured and the layout planned. Cable routes are planned at this point.
  3. We agree the desk, shelving and storage, and send a quote in writing, with the finish set out.
  4. Every part is made at our workshop, ready for a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
  5. We fit it in your home and check every drawer and door with you.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician ahead of time
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway

Advice

Questions we’re often asked

Will a conservation area stop me having fitted home offices fitted in Osterley?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

Do you make fitted home offices for homes in Osterley?

Yes. Osterley is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Hounslow and London. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit.

How long is the fitting for a home office?

The time the fitting takes depends on how much desk, shelving and storage you want, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Because everything is made at our workshop, the work in your home is the fitting itself. We work tidily and keep the room as clear as we can.

Can you add power points to the desk?

New sockets need an electrician. The furniture is designed to suit, with routes for chargers and screens. They can then be fitted where we have allowed for them.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you do not need to stay in the room, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.

Can you fit furniture on an external wall?

An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture to avoid condensation. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.

Fitted home offices for homes in Osterley

About 53% of the homes in the area around Osterley went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 15% between 1973 and 1999, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Osterley is partly covered by the Osterley Park Conservation Area, according to Historic England’s records. The controls in a conservation area are mostly about the outside of buildings, so furniture fitted inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If you are unsure, check with the council before work starts. Strict stopping rules apply on red routes, which TfL runs. If your home in Osterley is on or near a main road, tell us at the measuring visit. We can then plan where the van will stop.

The wider area includes historic houses like Osterley House, about 0.3 miles north. If your own home is a period one, a small back bedroom can become a home office with a desk under the window. Close to Inwood Park? A desk facing a window makes the most of the daylight. For a flat near Isleworth station, it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

A standalone desk can go with you when you move. Fitted furniture stays put, and it makes more of the room. The right choice depends on how long you plan to stay. If a house has been extended or knocked through, the new walls and the old ones may not line up, and straight-sided ready-made units make that obvious. Built-in pieces are scribed to take up the difference.

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.
