Loft storage designed for your room
Loft storage in Ashburton
Our work is in loft rooms that are already converted, or lofts that are boarded. We don’t carry out loft conversions, and Building Regulations apply to a conversion. Once the room is finished, we can design storage to suit it. If you have a converted loft in Ashburton, the design visit is the first step. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are space under the eaves going to waste and a loft room that still feels unfinished.
Homes in an area like Ashburton can come from many different periods, so the awkward spaces vary too: a bay, the space under the stairs, a hallway recess or the eaves of a converted loft. Eaves cupboards are designed for the space you have. Meters, fuse boards and boilers keep the access they need.
The furniture is built in our workshop after you have had the quote and decided to go ahead. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so you can check every detail beforehand.

Common questions about loft storage
Is parking a problem for fitting in Ashburton?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, so we can plan the day around it.
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Norwood Junction station?
Yes, homes across Croydon and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with some details about the room.
Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?
There are two options: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. The finish is agreed in your quote.
Is it possible to fit a wardrobe under the slope?
Yes. A wardrobe made for the slope fits where a standard one cannot. The tall end takes hanging space, and the low end can hold shelves or drawers. It’s scribed to the slope and walls.
Can you add sockets inside the units?
No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We’ll design around them.
Do I need to be in when you fit?
We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room, but it’s useful to be around at the end.

How it’s made
Birch plywood
Birch plywood is made in layers, which makes it strong and stable. It goes into the carcasses, the shelves and the drawers, and its edge can be left visible or painted.
Plinths and scribe strips
We trim scribe strips to the exact line of the wall and ceiling. They help the storage look as though it was always there. At floor level, the plinth hides any slope in the floor.
Why bespoke in Ashburton?
Ready-made furniture has to come up the loft stairs in one piece or flat-packed. We make each piece in sections that fit up the stairs. It means a full wardrobe can still reach the room. Few rooms have truly flat walls and level floors, so standalone furniture can lean or leave gaps. Fitted furniture is scribed and levelled on site.
Rooms that are not square take more work: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. The quote allows for it.

What it costs
Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. This is what makes the difference:
- How big the furniture is
- Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
Every room is priced on its own, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.
What to send when you get in touch
A few details help us understand the job before we visit. When you contact us, it’s useful to send:
- Where you live, with the postcode
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- How you want to use the space
Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, and the written quote comes after. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. To book a design visit, use our contact form.
Loft storage in Ashburton: local notes
Homes built before 1919 make up about 44% of the housing in the area around Ashburton, with about 26% built between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how eaves cupboards are fixed and fitted. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Ashburton include Church of St Luke (Grade II), less than half a mile north-east, and Woodside Cottage (Grade II), under half a mile north. If your own home is listed, internal works that affect its character, such as fixing into or removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. The share of homes built before 1919 around Ashburton, about 44%, is well above the figure for Croydon as a whole, about 29%, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). That makes period details like uneven walls, alcoves and picture rails more likely to shape the design.

What prompts loft storage in Ashburton
Some people want to hide clutter in the eaves. Eaves cupboards keep them out of sight. It keeps the room tidy.
If any of these sound familiar, it is worth getting in touch:
- A sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe
- Boxes and suitcases with no home
- Unused space in a dormer
- Low eaves that nobody can use
The wider area includes historic houses such as Addington Palace, about 2.4 miles south-east. For a period home anywhere nearby, the knee walls of a converted loft can take drawers as well as cupboards.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
- How the furniture will be finished, and where
- Whether you’ll get a written quote, not just a figure
- Whether they measure the room themselves
Fitting day, step by step
The last stage of the day is the finish. With a spray finish from the workshop, there is typically only filling and touching up to do in the room; hand painting, if that is what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. Fitting day means joining the sections, fitting them to the walls and setting them level. The fixings suit whatever the walls are made of. Saturdays can be arranged.
