Bespoke kitchens for homes in Beckton
We are carpenters, so we make and fit the cabinets, while other trades handle the services. Your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics, so the design allows for pipes, cables and connections. We make kitchens from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and people most often get in touch about a kitchen planned around your appliances and cabinets that suit lean and sloping walls.
A large number of homes around Beckton date from 2000 onwards, and in newer homes the kitchen is usually part of an open-plan room. A bespoke kitchen can be planned to sit well in that space, with an island where there’s room. Stud walls need wall cabinets fixed into the studs or with suitable fixings.
A written quote follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so it’s clear what’s included.

From workshop to your room
Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it’s going into, and that happens on fitting day. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Walls in newer homes are often plasterboard on studs, so on fitting day heavy pieces go into the studs or stand on the floor. Floors are covered while we work, and dust is kept to a minimum.
- We start with how you cook and what the kitchen needs to hold. Larders, dressers and islands can all be part of it, where space allows.
- At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the layout. We note where the water, gas and sockets are now.
- A quote follows, covering the design and finish.
- The cabinets, doors and drawer fronts are made in our workshop.
- Fitting day: we fit the cabinets, and your plumber, electrician and a Gas Safe engineer handle the services.

Do you need bespoke kitchens in Beckton?
In a flat, the kitchen may share a wall with the living space or sit in a narrow galley. Bespoke cabinets can make the most of a small or odd-shaped room, so every run is used.
A few of the things people ask us to solve are these:
- A central island in a larger kitchen
- A pantry cupboard with shelves and drawers
- Spaces sized for your oven and fridge
- A painted kitchen in a colour you choose
Living in a block of flats near Woolwich station? Then kitchens are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.

Questions we’re often asked
Is Beckton in the area you cover for bespoke kitchens?
Yes. We cover all of Newham and the rest of London, and Beckton is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, followed by a quote.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Beckton?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to let us know about parking during the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, by prior arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you contact us.
What finishes do you offer?
There are two choices: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. The finish is agreed in your quote.
What if the stairs or lift are small?
Getting it in is planned at the measuring visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
We need access, so someone has to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work, but it helps to be around at the end.
Flats, blocks and rented homes
If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, unloading takes some planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so it’s worth raising during the design visit.
Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them at the design visit.

What we don’t do
We’re carpenters, so some jobs belong to other trades. It helps to know these before you plan the job:
- Moving water or waste pipes
- Building work, like removing walls
- Electrics, sockets and lighting (your electrician)

Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for instance removing original joinery or fixing into it, can need listed building consent from the council. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. Since the zone was extended to the outer boroughs in August 2023, the whole of London has been inside the ULEZ. So any van that delivers or fits furniture in Beckton is covered by it. We go through parking and access at the design visit.
If you live near Beckton District Park, a cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen. If your children go to Gallions Primary School or a school nearby, a tall cupboard by the door can take school bags and coats as part of the kitchen.

Could you do it yourself?
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls.
