About our loft storage in Plaistow

Many loft rooms are bedrooms, and storage for clothes is the first need. Wardrobes under the slope, drawers in the knee wall and shelves in the dormer can all work together. Designed as one, they give the room calm, consistent lines. We design them around what you need to store in Plaistow. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and people most often get in touch about a loft room that doubles as an office or guest room and a sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe.

Some homes have eaves, some have bays and some have neither, but most have a recess, a landing or a corner that could take storage. For a home in Plaistow, the design visit is where the options are worked out. Eaves cupboards are then built in our workshop and fitted on site.

The furniture is made at our workshop after you have had the quote and decided to go ahead. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so every detail can be checked first.

Could you do it yourself?

The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t usually do that in an older room.

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.

How fitting day works

Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it sits neatly against the room. How long the fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and your quote sets out the fitting days. We measure the hall, stairs, doors and any lift not just the room, so the furniture comes in sections sized for the route. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.

  1. You let us know about the loft room.
  2. We come to measure and discuss the design and finish.
  3. A written quote follows.
  4. We make the cupboards and drawers in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit it in the loft and check each door and drawer with you.
  6. Go easy on new paintwork while it cures; hand-painted surfaces are easy to touch up later.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager

Getting a quote

Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a quote in writing. Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.

Questions we’re often asked

Can you fit furniture in a home close to West Ham station?

Yes, homes across Newham and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with some details about the room.

Can you make loft storage for a home in Plaistow?

Yes. Plaistow is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Newham and London. To get started, you can use our contact form with a few details.

Can you build a wardrobe under a sloping ceiling?

Yes. The wardrobe follows the angle of the ceiling, with hanging where there is height. It makes the most of the space. We plan it at the design visit.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

Someone needs to let us in. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You choose it. We agree the colour with you, and it’s set out in the quote.

Will the storage fit up my loft stairs?

We make the storage in sections sized for the route. We measure the way up not just the room. That way, even a large wardrobe can reach the loft.

The problems loft storage solve

A dormer can feel like wasted space. Built-in furniture in a dormer puts it to work. It uses space that is otherwise empty.

Typical reasons people contact us include:

  • No wardrobe that fits under the slope
  • Low eaves that nobody can use
  • A dormer that is not being used
  • A loft room that still feels unfinished

If you live near Keir Hardie Park, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place.

Before and after fitting day

None of this takes much effort. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Bring paint colours you like to the design visit
  • Look at the insulation and any vents behind the knee wall
  • Count the clothes you’ll need to hang
  • Mention any parking rules on your street

Keep the ventilation behind the eaves clear. Leave the gaps we’ve designed in. It helps prevent damp behind the storage.

Leave room for air to move behind the storage. Squashed insulation works less well. If you notice damp or condensation behind the eaves, ask whoever converted the loft.
