What it is made from
Spray-painted finish
For a crisp, even look, many people choose a spray-painted finish. It’s applied in our workshop, so treat it gently while it cures fully.
Hand-painted finish
A hand-painted finish can be applied once the storage is in place. Marks can be touched in without much trouble. Paint needs time to cure fully, so treat it gently at first.
About our loft storage in Upton Park
A dormer can take shelves, a desk or a window seat. Dormers have their own shapes, and walls that are seldom square. We scribe the furniture to follow them. It uses space that might otherwise be wasted. At the design visit in Upton Park, we’ll look at what fits. If your home has seasonal things cluttering the loft room and furniture that can’t get up to the loft, that is what eaves cupboards are for, made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Ceilings and floors in homes built before 1919 are rarely level, and a large share of the homes around Upton Park date from then. Eaves cupboards are scribed to the walls and levelled on site so doors, lids and drawers run true. Original skirting and mouldings are met neatly, and the paint colour is agreed with you.
After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish, so it’s clear what’s included.

Caring for painted furniture
None of this takes much effort. Here’s what we suggest:
- Think about how you’ll reach into the eaves
- Look at the insulation and any vents behind the knee wall
- Measure the loft stairs, the turns and the landing
- Choose a calm colour for the loft
Wiping the fronts with a soft, damp cloth is normally all they need. Avoid scourers and harsh cleaners. The edges around handles are touched most.
Leave room for air to move behind the storage. Insulation pressed flat does not do its job. If you notice damp or condensation behind the eaves, ask whoever converted the loft.

Bespoke loft storage or ready-made?
In a loft room, walls and floors are seldom square. Ready-made pieces show the gaps. We scribe our storage to the slopes and walls, and set it level. Standard furniture is drawn for modern rooms, so its proportions can look odd in a tall period room, while fitted furniture can follow the room’s own lines, with panels and details to suit the house.
Every room is priced on its own, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

Questions we’re often asked
Is Upton Park in the area you cover for loft storage?
Yes, Upton Park is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Newham and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, and then we send a quote.
My house in Upton Park is Victorian. Can you deal with uneven walls?
Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Older walls can be solid brick or lath and plaster, and the fixings are chosen to suit.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.
Can you get furniture up narrow loft stairs?
Measuring the route is part of the design visit. We size every section for the tightest turn, and then assembled in the loft.
What are your eaves cupboards made from?
We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood gives strength to the carcasses and drawers, while the doors and panels are MDF, which paints well. Everything is finished by spray painting or hand painting.
How is loft storage priced?
Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. It depends on how much storage you want, the shape of the room and the finish. To get a quote, tell us about the room on our contact form and we will arrange a design visit.
Flat-pack or bespoke?
A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls.
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That is something we plan for in the design.
What happens on fitting day
If anything comes up on the day, just ask. Most of the decisions were made during the design visit and set out in your quote, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving the room tidy. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. If your hall still has its original tiles or boards, they’re covered before any carrying starts. Fixings into older walls are made carefully, as lath and plaster can crack if treated roughly. Any decorating around the new pieces is for your decorator.

Storage in Upton Park homes: local notes
Homes built before 1919 make up about 69% of the housing in the streets around Upton Park, with about 11% built between 1945 and 1972, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Near the centre of Upton Park, Historic England’s list includes Boleyn Public House (Grade II), less than half a mile south, and Passmore Edwards Library (Grade II), about 0.5 miles south-west. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for instance removing original joinery or fixing into it, can need listed building consent from the council. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. Strict stopping rules apply on red routes, which TfL runs. If your street in Upton Park joins a main road, it’s worth telling us during the design visit. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.
If you live near West Ham Park, eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things. For a family home near St Edward's Catholic Primary School, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up. If your home is one of the older houses near St Martin's Church, a dormer in a converted loft can hold shelves or a small desk.
