Need loft storage in North Woolwich?

Questions we’re often asked

Can you make loft storage for a home in North Woolwich?

Yes. North Woolwich is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Newham and London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with some details.

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in North Woolwich?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking at the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.

How long does it take to fit loft storage?

How long fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Because everything is made in our workshop, the work in your home is the fitting itself. We keep the route up to the loft as clear as possible.

What finishes do you offer?

You can choose between two finishes: spray painted or hand painted. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.

Do you move sockets or add lighting?

No. We’re carpenters, so electrical work is for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.

Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?

An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps, which helps avoid condensation and mould. If there is damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.

Loft storage in North Woolwich: what you get

Getting furniture up to a loft room is part of the planning. We measure the route as well as the room, so the sections we make in our workshop can be carried up. It is part of the job for any loft room in North Woolwich. We make eaves cupboards from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and people most often get in touch about a boarded loft with no proper shelving and a converted loft with no fitted furniture.

Many homes around North Woolwich were built since 2000, and in a newer house with a converted loft, the eaves and slopes are worth using. For lofts, the storage goes into spaces that are already converted or boarded. Elsewhere, fitted storage is fixed to plasterboard walls with fixings that suit it.

The quote comes in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and talk it over at home. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Materials and finishes

Doors and drawer fronts

We make the fronts from moisture-resistant MDF and finish them in the colour you choose. Angled fronts are cut to follow the slope, keeping the lines neat.

Spray-painted finish

For a crisp, even look, many people choose a spray-painted finish. It is applied in our workshop, so treat it gently while it cures fully.

Storage in North Woolwich homes: local notes

In the streets around North Woolwich, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 40%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 26%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. The National Heritage List records 5 entries within half a mile of the centre of North Woolwich. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. Parking controls in London are set borough by borough, so Newham has its own. If your street in North Woolwich is in a controlled parking zone, a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed. It helps to let us know about parking at the measuring visit.

For a family home near Oasis Academy Silvertown, deep drawers suit the bulky things families collect, from scooters to swimming kit. For an older house near St John's Church, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using. Near listed buildings like Church of St Mary Magdalene, about 0.6 miles south of the centre of North Woolwich, older homes may keep original joinery that eaves cupboards can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent.

Honest limits

Not everything around loft storage is carpentry, like an electrician, a plumber or an engineer on the Gas Safe Register. Here is what to bear in mind:

  • Fixing damp or ventilation problems in the eaves
  • Converting the loft itself, which isn’t our work
  • New sockets, lights or wiring, which are for your electrician

Not sure whether your space suits loft storage? You can tell us about the room on our contact form and we will tell you. How it works.

What goes into it

  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Birch plywood
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Eaves doors and drawers
  • Sloped wardrobe tops

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Standalone furniture can move with you, and it may suit a short stay. Fitted storage stays put, and it makes far more of the loft. The right choice depends on how long you plan to stay. Standalone furniture fixed to plasterboard needs the right fixings, and often does not get them. Fitted furniture is planned with fixings into the studs or made for the board.

Awkward rooms take more time: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. That is reflected in the quote, written once we’ve measured up.

Why choose us

  • We visit, measure and discuss the design before we quote
  • More than 300 projects completed
  • Saturday visits and fitting by arrangement
  • A spray or hand-painted finish

See how bespoke compares with ready-made or how to compare quotes.

When is bespoke worth it?

What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.

How fitting day works

When the fitting is done, we tidy the room. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and explain how to look after the paint. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Parking at newer developments can be restricted, with private bays or loading areas, so it’s useful to let us know at the design visit. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled and fixed. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about the loft and the stairs up to it.
  2. We visit to measure the loft and the way up, including the top flight and any tight turn. Let us know about parking too, as a van often needs a permit or a paid bay.
  3. We send a quote in writing.
  4. We build the storage in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, sized to get up to the loft.
  5. We carry the sections up, join them in the room and scribe them to fit. The finish is sprayed in the workshop or hand-painted in the loft.

Before fitting day

  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician in advance

Starting with a design visit

Rough measurements are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To get started, message us from the contact page and let us know about the room. The written quote follows the visit.
