Loft storage in Bickley, Bromley

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on loft storage in Bickley starts with a design visit, and everything is made in our workshop.

  • A new loft conversion that needs storage
  • A sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe
  • An empty dormer that could hold shelves

Loft storage in Bickley

Loft storage for homes in Bickley

Sloping ceilings make standard wardrobes hard to fit. We shape wardrobes to the slope, putting hanging space at the tall end and shelves or drawers where it is low. It uses the full height of the room. We’ll plan it at the design visit in Bickley. If you’re living with clothes with nowhere to go in a loft bedroom and an empty dormer that could hold shelves, eaves cupboards made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

Not every home has a loft conversion, a bay or a cupboard under the stairs, but almost every home has somewhere storage could go. Whatever kind of home yours is in Bickley, we start by looking at what’s there. The storage is built in our workshop and fitted in your home.

The quote comes in writing, so there’s time to read it properly. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Fitting day, step by step

Fitting day follows a set order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Before fitting day, we check the route in along with the room itself, so the furniture comes in sections sized for the route. We cover floors and doorways on the way in.

  1. First we hear about the loft room and what you’d like to store, including the eaves and any dormer.
  2. We measure the eaves, the slopes and the stairs up to the loft.
  3. We agree the cupboards, drawers and wardrobes, and send a written quote.
  4. The storage is made in our workshop, in sections sized for the stairs. It’s made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We carry it up, fit it and check every door and drawer with you. Any hand painting is done in the loft.

Preparing the room

  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Tell us about parking near your home

Arranging a design visit

Photos help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space, along with rough measurements. To share them, tell us about the room on our contact form, and we will suggest a time for a design visit.

Advice

Why people ask for loft storage in Bickley

Standard wardrobes do not fit under a sloping ceiling. Bespoke wardrobes follow the slope. It is a common need in a loft bedroom.

If any of these sound familiar, it is worth getting in touch:

  • A boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised
  • Needing storage in a loft office
  • Unused space in a dormer
  • Furniture that can’t get up to the loft

If your home is one of the older houses near Church of St George, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using.

What to check before you book

  • Will they visit to measure before quoting?
  • Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
  • Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
  • How they deal with uneven walls and floors

Loft storage for homes in Bickley

About 33% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Bickley went up before 1919, and about 25% between 1919 and 1939, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. That matters for eaves cupboards, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. The National Heritage List records 14 entries within half a mile of the centre of Bickley. Being near listed buildings does not make a home listed, and you can check any address on Historic England’s list. The share of homes built before 1919 around Bickley, about 33%, is well above the figure for Bromley as a whole, about 17%, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. So older-house details are more likely to come into the design of eaves cupboards.

For families living near Bullers Wood School for Boys, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up. Near listed buildings like Church of St George, less than half a mile north-east of the centre of Bickley, older homes may keep original joinery that eaves cupboards can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

Common questions about loft storage

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Bickley?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, so the day can be planned around it.

Can you make loft storage for a home in Bickley?

Yes, we work across Bromley, Bickley included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can use our contact form with a few details.

Which materials go into your loft storage?

Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish. Stable materials suit a loft, where temperatures can vary. Your quote confirms the materials and finish.

Do you do the loft conversion too?

No. We do not carry out loft conversions. We design and fit storage once the room is in place, from eaves cupboards to wardrobes under the slopes.

Can you add sockets inside the units?

No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician. We’ll design around them.

What if my walls and floors are out of level?

It’s something we deal with all the time. We trim the edges to follow the wall and level the base.

Before and after fitting day

A few practical points help before and after fitting day. Here are some things worth bearing in mind:

  • Note how narrow the loft stairs are
  • Think about matching the woodwork or the walls
  • Note the things that need a home in the loft
  • Think about hanging space for a loft bedroom

We open each door and run each drawer with you before we go. Any access to the eaves is checked so it still opens. You will know it all works as it should.

Avoid overloading drawers so they keep running smoothly. It’s useful to clear out now and then. Heavy boxes are best kept low.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. We choose fixings to suit the wall, after checking the walls during the design visit.

If the property is let, we’ll need access agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. An agent can arrange access for you, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s usually a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.

Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that are not square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths.
