Bickley Fitted Wardrobes

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make fitted wardrobes for homes in Bickley, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • A room too narrow for hinged doors
  • Bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes
  • Space under the eaves going to waste

Fitted wardrobes designed for your room

How we make fitted wardrobes for Bickley

Fitted wardrobes are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The doors are finished with spray paint in the workshop or painted by hand, in a colour agreed with you. We then fit them in your home, setting them level on adjustable feet or a plinth and scribing them to the walls and ceiling. If you are living with an awkward slope in a loft bedroom and a room too narrow for hinged doors, that’s what fitted wardrobes are for, made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

Whether your home in Bickley is a period house, an interwar semi, a post-war flat or a newer build, the furniture starts from your room, not a standard size. External walls can be colder than internal ones, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation. The inside layout is planned around what you actually store.

The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it is easier before the furniture is made.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Let us know about it when you get in touch.

Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, after checking the walls at the measuring visit.

What affects the cost of fitted wardrobes

When we put a quote together, we consider:

  • Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • The internal fittings
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room

In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. Let us know about parking at the measuring visit.

What to send when you contact us

The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. It is useful to include:

  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling

Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, and the written quote comes after. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. To book a design visit, message us from the contact page.

Where other trades come in

Before you plan the job, it is useful to know what we do not do:

  • Curing damp, which needs the right specialist
  • Decorating or plastering the room
  • Any wiring or new sockets (your electrician handles those)

Not sure whether your space suits fitted wardrobes? You can message us from the contact page and we will tell you. How it works.

What goes into it

  • Spray-painted finish
  • Hinged or sliding doors
  • Hanging rails, shelves and drawers
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Birch plywood

Looking after your furniture

The finish lasts best with a little care. Here are our suggestions:

  • Check your lease before fixing furniture to walls in a leasehold flat
  • Decide what goes on shelves and what goes in drawers
  • Plan any socket or switch changes with your electrician before fitting
  • Empty the area where we’ll be working

Fill the rails gradually and spread the weight along them instead of crowding one section. Heavy coats are best on a short rail or near a support.

Close doors gently and do not let them swing into furniture, and keep sliding doors from crashing into the ends. It helps the hinges and runners stay true.

What happens on fitting day

If anything comes up on the day, just ask. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving everything tidy. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. It helps to clear the room and the route in before fitting day, including pictures on nearby walls. We cover floors and doorways first. Then the sections come in and are joined in place.

  1. To begin, get in touch through our contact form; a brief note on the bedroom and what you need to store is enough.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and plan the inside: long hanging, double hanging, shelves and drawers.
  3. The written quote sets out each wardrobe’s inside layout, the doors, the materials and the finish.
  4. The wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, ready for the rails, shelves and drawers you chose.
  5. The wardrobes are fitted in your home, spray-painted in the workshop or hand-painted on site, and the inside fittings go in last.

How to prepare

  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Keep pets in another room while we work

Advice

FAQs: fitted wardrobes in Bickley

Can you make fitted wardrobes for a home in Bickley?

Yes, we work across Bromley, Bickley included, and across the rest of London. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Bickley?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to let us know about parking at the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.

How is the inside of the wardrobe planned?

The inside is planned around your clothes. It can include long and double hanging, shelves, drawers and space for shoes. We plan it with you when we visit.

Hinged or sliding doors: which suits my bedroom?

That depends on how much space there is in front of the wardrobe. If a bed or a door is close, sliding doors can make more sense. We look at it with you when we measure.

Can fitted wardrobes go on an external wall?

Yes. We plan ventilation behind and inside wardrobes on external walls. Any existing damp needs dealing with before fitting.

What finishes do you offer?

There are two ways to finish it: spray painted or hand painted. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.

Fitted bedroom furniture in Bickley

In the streets around Bickley, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 33%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 25%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Near the centre of Bickley, Historic England’s list includes Church of St George (Grade II), under half a mile north-east, and Bickley Court (Grade II), less than half a mile north. For a listed home, works inside that affect its character can need listed building consent from the council, for instance removing or fixing into original panelling. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. A quarter or more of the homes in the streets around Bickley (about 25%) date from between 1919 and 1939, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Houses from that era often have a box room over the stairs, with a raised bulkhead in the floor, a good spot for fitted furniture built around the bulkhead.

For families living near Bullers Wood School for Boys, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller. Bromley Palace, about 1.1 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go. Close to Jubilee Country Park? Fitted wardrobes are usually planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay.
