What affects the price in Duckett's Green
The price for your room depends on:
- The internal fittings
- How big the furniture is
- Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
The finish affects the cost: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.
Before the design visit
The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. It is useful to include:
- Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- Examples of the look you’re after
- Where you live, with the postcode
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
Rough sizes are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To get started, fill in our short enquiry form. The written quote follows the visit.
Loft storage in Duckett's Green
The low space behind a knee wall is often the most useful in the room. Eaves cupboards and pull-out drawers built into the knee wall put it to work. Drawers bring the back of the space within reach. We measure and plan for the space you have in Duckett's Green. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a dormer that isn’t being used and boxes and suitcases with no home.
A large share of the homes around Duckett's Green were built before 1919, and older houses have lots of odd corners: under the stairs, in the bay, along the hall and under the eaves of a converted loft. That’s where fitted storage comes in, scribed to walls that are rarely straight.
A quote in writing is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It sets out the eaves cupboard designed for your room, its materials and its finish, and it is what the workshop builds to.

How fitting works for loft storage
Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it’s going into, and that happens on fitting day. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, closing the gaps a standard unit would leave. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In houses converted into flats, the route in may include a shared hall and stairs, so it’s useful to let neighbours know about fitting day. The sections are sized for the narrowest point on the route. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.
- It starts when you get in touch about storage in your loft.
- We visit to measure and look at what’s behind the knee walls, and go through the design with you.
- Your quote sets out the design, the materials and the finish.
- We make the cupboards and drawers in our workshop, cut to the slope, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The storage is fitted and set level, ready to fill.
Before fitting day
- Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
Ask for a quote
We quote once we have seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and discuss the design with you, and the written quote comes after. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. To book a design visit, use our contact form.
Advice
How it’s made
Moisture-resistant MDF
In a loft, stability matters, and moisture-resistant MDF is stable. It gives a smooth base for paint. It forms the doors and panels.
Birch plywood
Its layered build gives birch plywood its strength. We use it for carcasses, shelves and drawer boxes, and its edge can be left visible or painted.
Do you need loft storage in Duckett's Green?
Standard wardrobes do not fit under a sloping ceiling. A wardrobe made for the slope uses the full height. It is a common need in a loft bedroom.
Most of the enquiries we get are about needs like these:
- Furniture that can’t get up to the loft
- Seasonal things cluttering the loft room
- Wasted space behind the knee walls
- A dormer that is not being used
For an older house near Christ Church, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using.
Before you hire any carpenter
- How the furniture will be finished, and where
- Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done
- Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
- Whether they measure the room themselves

Questions we’re often asked
Is parking a problem for fitting in Duckett's Green?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.
Do you make loft storage for homes in Duckett's Green?
Yes. We cover all of Haringey and the rest of London, and Duckett's Green is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.
Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?
External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture, which helps avoid condensation and mould. If there’s damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.
Do photos help?
Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot. You can send them when you send us a few details through our contact form.
Will cupboards in the eaves stop air moving?
A good design avoids that. We look behind the knee wall at the measuring visit and plan the storage so air can still move. Insulation and ventilation work itself is not ours.
Do I get to choose the colour?
You do. We agree the colour with you, and it is set out in the quote.
