Loft storage in Arnos Grove, Enfield

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make loft storage for homes in Arnos Grove, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • Unused space in a dormer
  • A loft room that still feels unfinished
  • A sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe

Questions we’re often asked

Can you fit furniture in a home close to New Southgate station?

Yes, homes across Enfield and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Do you make loft storage for homes in Arnos Grove?

Yes, we work across Enfield, Arnos Grove included, and across the rest of London. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit.

Can you convert my loft as well?

No, the conversion itself isn’t our work. Our part is the storage once the loft is a finished room, from eaves cupboards to wardrobes under the slopes.

Does fitted furniture need planning permission?

Not usually. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different: check with the council’s conservation officer first.

What materials do you use for loft storage?

We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The carcasses and drawer boxes are birch plywood, which is strong and holds screws well, and MDF takes paint well for the doors and panels. The finish is spray-painted or hand-painted.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.

Loft storage in Arnos Grove

The space behind the knee wall normally has insulation and ventilation to think about. We design the storage so it doesn’t block airflow or crush insulation. If anything looks wrong behind the eaves, it’s worth asking whoever converted the loft. We look at this during the design visit in Arnos Grove. People typically come to us about needing storage in a loft office and a boarded loft with no proper shelving; the furniture is made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

Older homes like many around Arnos Grove have floors and ceilings that slope, and a large share of homes around Arnos Grove are that old. Each piece is scribed and levelled on site so it looks straight in a room that isn’t. Original skirting and mouldings are met neatly, and the paint colour is agreed with you.

The furniture is built in our workshop after you’ve had the quote and decided to go ahead. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so every detail can be checked first.

Is bespoke worth it?

In a loft room, walls and floors are seldom square. Standard furniture leaves visible gaps. We scribe our storage to the slopes and walls, and set it level. Recesses in older houses come in every size except the standard ones, so ready-made units rarely fill them properly. Furniture made for the space fills it.

Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying. Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit.

Why choose us

  • Edges scribed to follow your walls
  • Built in our workshop and fitted in your home
  • Every quote follows a design visit
  • Made for your room, not a standard size

Read bespoke vs off-the-shelf or what to look for in a quote.

When you need someone else

Electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering and structural work are not part of what we do. There are a few other points to bear in mind:

  • Insulation or ventilation work behind the eaves
  • Building work to turn a loft into a room
  • Any work on the structure of the house

If in doubt, you can fill in our short enquiry form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

Materials and parts

  • Eaves doors and drawers
  • Birch plywood
  • Sloped wardrobe tops
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Moisture-resistant MDF

From workshop to your room

You will not need to do much on the day. Someone needs to let us in, and the room should already be cleared, as we’ll have talked about at the design visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. The time the fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Where a period house has been split into flats, the way in often goes through shared parts, so it helps to let neighbours know about fitting day. Each section is sized for the tightest door or turn. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. You contact us about storage in your converted loft.
  2. At the design visit we plan the storage and measure the stairs, landings and loft doorway.
  3. We send a quote in writing.
  4. We build the storage in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, sized to get up to the loft.
  5. The sections go up the stairs, are assembled under the eaves and set level.

Before we arrive

  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
  • Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area

How to get a quote

Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space, along with rough measurements. To send them over, send us a few details through our contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.

The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

Materials and finishes

Spray-painted finish

Spray painting suits angled panels and plain fronts alike. We do it in our workshop, where the finish can be kept even. The colour is your choice.

Moisture-resistant MDF

In a loft, stability matters, and moisture-resistant MDF is stable. It takes a spray-painted or hand-painted finish well. It’s used for most of the visible parts.

Loft storage in Arnos Grove: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the area around Arnos Grove were built before 1919 (about 46%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 28%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Near the centre of Arnos Grove, Historic England’s list includes Arnos Grove Underground Station (Grade II*), less than half a mile west, and Broomfield House Broomfield Park (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles east. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. On TfL’s red routes, the rules on stopping and loading are strict. If your home is on or just off a main road, it helps to mention it. Then we can work out where to load and unload.

If you live in a period home close to Syro-Malabar Catholic Church of London, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using. If you live near Broomfield Park, eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things.
