Loft storage in Broadwater Farm
Loft storage in Broadwater Farm
Dormers are a natural place for shelving or a small desk. Their sides are often angled, and their walls rarely straight. We scribe the furniture to follow them. It adds storage without taking up the main floor. We’ll discuss the options in Broadwater Farm. People normally come to us about a sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe and a dormer that isn’t being used, and the answer is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
Older homes like many around Broadwater Farm have floors and ceilings that slope, and a large share of homes around Broadwater Farm are that old. Eaves cupboards are scribed to the walls and levelled on site so doors, lids and drawers run true. Picture rails, skirting and cornices are worked around rather than removed, and the paint colour is agreed with you.
The quote comes in writing, so you can read it at your own pace. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

What it’s made from
Moisture-resistant MDF
A loft room can see more change in temperature than other rooms, so a stable material matters. It takes a spray-painted or hand-painted finish well. It’s used for most of the visible parts.
Birch plywood
Knee-wall drawers often carry a real load. That’s why we make drawer boxes from birch plywood. It works well for longer shelves too.

When you need someone else
As carpenters, we leave some work to other trades. It’s useful to know these before you plan the job:
- Any wiring, which needs an electrician
- Adding or replacing insulation
- Converting the loft itself, which isn’t our work
If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. How a job runs, step by step.

Fitted storage in Broadwater Farm
The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Broadwater Farm were built before 1919 (about 48%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 19%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how eaves cupboards are fixed and fitted. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Broadwater Farm include Tower to South West of Bruce Castle (Grade I), under half a mile north-east, and All Hallows Vicarage the Priory (Grade II*), less than half a mile north-east. Where a home is listed, listed building consent can be needed for inside works that affect its character, like fixing into original panelling. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. TfL’s red routes have strict stopping rules. If your street in Broadwater Farm joins a main road, it’s worth telling us at the measuring visit. That way we can plan where to load and unload.
Bruce Castle, about 0.4 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, sloping ceilings in a loft room suit wardrobes cut to the angle. If you live near Bruce Castle Park, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place.

Questions we are often asked
Is Broadwater Farm in the area you cover for loft storage?
Yes. We cover all of Haringey and the rest of London, and Broadwater Farm is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.
I live in a flat in Broadwater Farm. How will the furniture get up the stairs?
At the design visit, we measure the way in along with the room itself. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.
Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?
There are two options: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.
Do you do the electrics?
No. Electrical work isn’t something we do; it is a job for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch, and we will see what we can do.
Can you fit furniture on an external wall?
It needs a little planning: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. Damp treatment isn’t something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.
Why people ask for loft storage in Broadwater Farm
Loft rooms that double as offices or guest rooms need places for things. Storage in the eaves leaves the main floor clear.
Typical reasons people contact us include:
- Wasted space behind the knee walls
- A loft room that still feels unfinished
- Standard furniture that will not go up the loft stairs
- An empty dormer that could hold shelves
For families living near The Willow Primary School, deep drawers suit the bulky things families collect, from scooters to swimming kit.
Before you hire any carpenter
- Where they’ll park and unload
- Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
- Will the doors close with even gaps?
- How the furniture will be finished, and where
Why bespoke in Broadwater Farm?
Standalone furniture can move with you, and it may suit a short stay. Fitted storage stays with the house, and it uses the slopes in a way a standalone piece cannot. The right choice depends on how long you plan to stay. Standard units assume square rooms, and period homes seldom have them, so it leaves gaps at the wall, tilts on sloping floors or sits awkwardly against skirting and picture rails. Fitted furniture is scribed to the wall instead.
Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design.

How fitting day works
Getting everything level comes first. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. If your hall still has its original tiles or boards, they’re covered before any carrying starts. Fixings into older walls are made carefully, as lath and plaster can crack if treated roughly. Decorating around the furniture afterwards is for your decorator.
- It starts when you contact us about storage in your loft.
- At the design visit, we look at the slopes, the eaves and the way up, and go through the design with you.
- A written quote follows, with the fitting days agreed.
- We make the cupboards and drawers in our workshop, cut to the slope, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The storage is fitted and set level, ready to fill.
Before we arrive
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Keep pets in another room while we work
