Loft storage in West Green
How we make loft storage for West Green
Loft stairs are often narrow and steep, with tight turns. We measure the route along with the room itself, so every section made in our workshop fits up the stairs. It is part of the job for any loft room in West Green. Typical reasons to get in touch are a boarded loft with no proper shelving and a loft room that still feels unfinished; the furniture is made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
A solid brick outside wall in an older house can be cold and sometimes damp, so storage against it is designed with ventilation behind. A large share of the homes around West Green date from then. Damp should be sorted before anything is fitted against the wall.
The furniture is made in our workshop after you have had the quote and decided to go ahead. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so you can check every detail beforehand.

Fitting day, step by step
There isn’t much for you to do on fitting day. Someone needs to let us in, and the room should already be cleared, as we’ll have talked about at the design visit. After that, it is over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Scribing is done on site, which means some cutting in the room or close by, so a clear area to work in near the room helps. Dust is kept down and cleared up as we go. Where the finish is hand-painted, it can be done after the pieces are in.
- You get in touch and describe the loft room, its slopes and any dormer.
- We visit to measure the slopes and eaves and talk through cupboards, drawers and wardrobes under them.
- Your written quote sets out the storage and the finish.
- The storage is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, cut to the angles we measured.
- We fit the storage in the loft, trimming the edges so they meet the ceiling neatly.
How to prepare
- Keep pets in another room while we work
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
How to get a quote
If you know what you want, say so; if you do not, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To arrange a visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

What affects the price in West Green
A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:
- The width and height of the space
- How square the room is
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
- Parking and unloading on your street
Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, which the quote allows for. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose.
Before the design visit
The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. It is useful to include:
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- Any ideas or images you have saved
A quote begins with a few details from you: the room, rough sizes and some photos if you have them. When you are ready, send us a few details through our contact form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

If your street in West Green is in a controlled parking zone, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension through the council may be needed. We ask about parking at the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.
Bruce Castle, about 1.1 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, eaves cupboards in a converted loft are scribed to slopes that are rarely even. If you live in a flat close to Seven Sisters station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in. For a family home near West Green Primary School, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up.

Flats, blocks and rented homes
Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. We choose fixings to suit the wall, after checking the walls at the measuring visit.
Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We cannot give advice on leases, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.
What loft storage cannot fix
Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, and there are a few other limits too:
- Structural changes, such as cutting into rafters or joists
- Building work to turn a loft into a room
- Any wiring, which needs an electrician
If in doubt, you can get in touch through our contact form and describe the room. Our process from visit to fitting.

FAQs: loft storage in West Green
Is West Green in the area you cover for loft storage?
Yes. West Green is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Haringey and London. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit.
Will a conservation area stop me having loft storage fitted in West Green?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Do you carry out loft conversions?
No. We do not carry out loft conversions. We design and fit storage once the room is in place, from eaves cupboards to wardrobes under the slopes.
Will cupboards in the eaves stop air moving?
Not when it’s planned well. We look behind the knee wall at the design visit and plan the storage so air can still move. We don’t alter insulation or vents.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
We need someone to let us in at the start of the day. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
Will the storage fit up my loft stairs?
We measure the stairs and landings as well as the loft room. We size every section for the tightest turn, and then assembled in the loft.
Is bespoke worth it?
Ready-made furniture has to come up the loft stairs in one piece or flat-packed. Our storage is made in sections sized for the route. That makes it possible to fit large pieces in a small loft. Recesses in older houses come in every size except the standard ones, so ready-made units rarely fill them properly. Made for the space, the furniture uses the full width and height.
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. A larger piece means more material and more time. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.
