Loft Storage in Hornsey

We make loft storage for homes in Hornsey, designed around the room you have. We design your eaves cupboard at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.

  • A dormer that is not being used
  • A new loft conversion that needs storage
  • Boxes and suitcases with no home

Looking after your furniture

None of this takes much effort. What we’d suggest:

  • Clear the knee-wall spaces before the design visit if you can
  • Measure the loft stairs, the turns and the landing
  • Bring paint colours you like to the design visit
  • Count the clothes you will need to hang

When we have finished fitting, the cupboards and drawers are ready. New paintwork takes time to cure fully, so go easy on it to begin with. Avoid sticky tape, heavy knocks and harsh cleaners while it hardens.

Leave room for air to move behind the storage. Insulation pressed flat doesn’t do its job. Damp in the eaves is worth raising with the people who did the conversion.

Loft storage for homes in Hornsey

Behind an eaves door, there’s often insulation and a need for ventilation. We design the storage so it doesn’t block airflow or crush insulation. If anything looks wrong behind the eaves, it is worth asking whoever converted the loft. We look at this at the measuring visit in Hornsey. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are standard furniture that won’t go up the loft stairs and space under the eaves going to waste.

Outside walls in houses from before 1919 are usually solid brick, which can be cold, so a gap and ventilation behind fitted storage help avoid condensation. That matters around Hornsey, where a large share of the homes are that old. Damp should be sorted before anything is fitted against the wall.

A written quote is the clearest record of what we’ve agreed. It sets out the eaves cupboard designed for your room, what it is made from and how it is finished.

Common questions about loft storage

How do you fit loft storage in a flat in Hornsey?

We measure the route in not just the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It’s useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

My home in Hornsey is a period house with walls that are not straight. Is that a problem?

Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. Skirting, picture rails and cornices are met neatly or cut around. Older walls can be solid brick or lath and plaster, and the fixings are chosen to suit.

What if the wall is cold or damp?

It needs a little planning: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. We do not treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.

Should I send pictures?

Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. You can send them when you get in touch through our contact form.

How much does loft storage cost?

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. It depends on how much storage you want, the shape of the room and the finish. For a quote, message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too.

From workshop to your room

In older rooms, the furniture normally has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site, so it sits neatly against the room. How long fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Original hallway tiles and old floorboards are worth protecting, so they’re covered before anything comes in. Fixings into older walls are made carefully, as lath and plaster can crack if treated roughly. Decorating around the furniture afterwards is for your decorator.

  1. First we hear about the loft room and what you’d like to store.
  2. At the design visit, the room and the route up are measured, as everything has to get up there.
  3. We agree the cupboards, drawers and wardrobes, and send a written quote, with the finish set out.
  4. The storage is built in our workshop, in sections sized for the stairs. It’s made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The storage is fitted, scribed to the slopes and checked with you.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to

Ask for a quote

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you don’t, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, drop us a line using the contact form.

Storage in Hornsey homes: local notes

In the area around Hornsey, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 63%) and the years since 2000 (about 18%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. 11 conservation areas have at least part of their area less than a mile from the middle of Hornsey. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping and loading. If your street in Hornsey joins a main road, it’s worth telling us at the design visit. Then we can work out where to load and unload.

If you live near Priory Park, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place. The wider area includes historic houses such as Bruce Castle, about 2 miles north-east. For a period home anywhere nearby, sloping ceilings in a loft room suit wardrobes cut to the angle.

How we price loft storage

When we put a quote together, we consider:

  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • Doors and drawers, and how many
  • Parking and unloading on your street

Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. It helps to talk about parking at the design visit, so we can plan for it.

What to send when you contact us

When you contact us, these help most:

  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, once the room is measured and the design talked through. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

Flats, leases and landlords

Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too. It’s made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, finished by spray or by hand.

In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways not just the room, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.

Do you need loft storage in Hornsey?

A boarded loft can be made far more useful with shelving. Storage in a boarded loft keeps everything organised. It is ideal for things you need now and then.

We are often asked to help with:

  • Low eaves that nobody can use
  • A dormer that isn’t being used
  • A sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe
  • A converted loft with no fitted furniture

For families living near St Mary's CofE Primary School, deep drawers suit the bulky things families collect, from scooters to swimming kit.

What to check before you book

  • Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
  • Will the doors close with even gaps?
  • How they’ll get the furniture into the room
  • How parking will work on your street
