Loft storage for your home in Dormers Wells
Loft storage in Dormers Wells: what you get
Getting furniture up to a loft room is part of the planning. At the design visit, we measure the stairs and landings as well as the loft, so every section made in our workshop fits up the stairs. It is a step that matters for any loft in Dormers Wells. People typically come to us about ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs and no wardrobe that fits under the slope, and the answer is made in our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around Dormers Wells, the hall is often wide enough for coat and shoe storage. Bay windows suit seating with drawers or lift-up lids, with a grille so any radiator below keeps heating the room. Eaves cupboards are measured and made for the house you have.
Where other trades are needed, for instance an electrician to move a socket, we point that out, so it can be arranged before fitting day. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

Looking after your furniture
A few practical points help before and after fitting day. Here are some things worth bearing in mind:
- Tell us about parking at the design visit
- Bring paint colours you like to the design visit
- Note how narrow the loft stairs are
- Decide whether you’d prefer drawers, cupboards or both
Heavy items are best kept in the lower parts of the storage. That keeps the drawers running smoothly. Shelves are made for what you told us you’d store.
Avoid overloading drawers so they keep running smoothly. It is useful to clear out now and then. Keep the heaviest things near the floor.
FAQs: loft storage in Dormers Wells
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Southall station?
Yes, homes across Ealing and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Dormers Wells?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It’s useful to let us know about parking at the design visit.
Does eaves storage affect the insulation?
Not when it is planned well. At the design visit we check what’s there and leave the space it needs. Insulation and ventilation work itself isn’t ours.
Is it possible to fit a wardrobe under the slope?
Yes. We shape the wardrobe to follow the slope, with hanging at the tall end and shelves or drawers lower down. It uses the full height of the room. We plan it at the measuring visit.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work, but it’s useful to be around at the end.
Do you do the loft conversion too?
No. We do not carry out loft conversions. Our part is the storage once the loft is a finished room, including eaves cupboards, knee-wall drawers and wardrobes.
Fitting day, step by step
Fitting day follows a set order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.
- You tell us about the loft room.
- At the design visit we measure up and agree the layout and colour.
- A quote in writing follows.
- The storage is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, and sprayed there if you chose a spray finish.
- The storage is fitted and scribed to the slopes, and any hand painting is done on site.
- Fresh paint needs time to cure, so use the doors and drawers gently at first.
Before fitting day
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
Getting a quote
Rough measurements are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit. To get started, drop us a line using the contact form and tell us about the room. The written quote follows the visit.
Advice
What it’s made from
Spray-painted finish
A spray-painted finish works well on every part of the storage. We do it in our workshop, where the finish can be kept even. The colour is your choice.
Plinths and scribe strips
Loft rooms are seldom square. Scribe strips and a plinth take up the difference. The result is neat, even lines all round.
Flats, blocks and rented homes
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so tell us about it during the design visit.
For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
Dormers Wells homes and loft storage
The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Dormers Wells were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 54%) and since 2000 (about 15%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Dormers Wells include Grove House (Grade II), less than half a mile south-west, and Red Lion Public House (Grade II), about 0.5 miles south-west. If your own home is listed, changes inside that alter its character, like fixing into or removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. About 33% of households in the area around Dormers Wells live in terraced houses, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. Loft conversions are common in London terraces, leaving eaves and sloping ceilings to use; we build once the loft is converted or boarded.
For a flat near Southall station, eaves cupboards are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. If your children go to Dormers Wells Junior School or a school nearby, eaves cupboards can give school bags, shoes and sports kit a proper home. Osterley House, about 1.9 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, the knee walls of a converted loft can take drawers as well as cupboards.

How we price loft storage
Several things affect the price:
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- Doors and drawers, and how many
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We will talk through what you need inside at the measuring visit, and the quote follows.
What we need to know
Getting some details early makes the visit more useful. If you can, send:
- Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- Approximate measurements of the space
- Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
- Your postcode and the borough
A quote begins with a few details from you: the room, rough measurements and some pictures if you have them. To send them, use our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and discuss the design, then send a written quote.
