About our loft storage in Bedford Park

A converted loft often has more storage space than it first seems. We design and make eaves cupboards, drawers in the knee walls, wardrobes under the slopes and shelves in dormers, each shaped to the room. In Bedford Park, as everywhere we work, it begins with a visit to measure and plan. People normally come to us about a new loft conversion that needs storage and boxes and suitcases with no home, and the answer is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

Original features like shutters, cupboard doors and panelling are worth keeping where they survive. Around Bedford Park, where homes from before 1919 make up a large share, fitted storage can be designed to sit alongside them. Panel details can be drawn to suit the house. If your home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original joinery.

After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so it is clear what’s included.

Common questions about loft storage

Can you make loft storage for a home in Bedford Park?

Yes, we work across Ealing, Bedford Park included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with a few details.

Does a conservation area in or near Bedford Park affect fitted furniture?

Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can require listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

Do you do the loft conversion too?

No, the conversion itself isn’t our work. We design and fit storage once the room is in place, from eaves cupboards to wardrobes under the slopes.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. We’ll also ask about access and parking.

How much does loft storage cost?

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. It depends on how much storage you want, the shape of the room and the finish. To get a quote, message us from the contact page and we will arrange a design visit.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Just mention it when you contact us.

Fitting day, step by step

There is not much for you to do on fitting day. Someone needs to let us in, and the room should already be cleared, as we’ll have talked about during the design visit. After that, it’s over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. The time the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Parking on terraced streets can be tight, particularly in a controlled parking zone, so it helps to tell us during the design visit what’s outside. Unloading is kept short, with sections taken straight inside. Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement.

  1. You contact us about storage in your converted loft.
  2. At the design visit we plan the storage and measure the stairs, landings and loft doorway.
  3. We send a quote in writing.
  4. Everything is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections small enough for the loft stairs.
  5. The sections go up the stairs, are assembled under the eaves and set level.

Before fitting day

  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
  • Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area

Starting with a design visit

Getting a quote starts with a few details: the room, rough sizes and some photos if you have them. To send them, fill in our short enquiry form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and go through the design, then send a quote in writing.

Advice

When you need someone else

It helps to know what’s outside our work before you plan:

  • Insulation or ventilation work behind the eaves
  • Building Regulations approval for a conversion
  • Converting the loft itself, which isn’t our work

If in doubt, you can use our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

Materials and parts

  • Eaves doors and drawers
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Birch plywood
  • Sloped wardrobe tops
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Hand-painted finish

Looking after your furniture

Painted fitted furniture is easy to look after. These habits help most:

  • Empty the eaves so we can see what’s behind
  • Count the clothes you will need to hang
  • Consider drawers for the deep, low spaces
  • Note any vents or insulation in the eaves

Once the fitting is done, the storage is ready to use. New paintwork takes time to cure fully, so go easy on it to begin with. Avoid sticky tape, heavy knocks and harsh cleaners while it hardens.

Avoid overloading drawers so they keep running smoothly. A quick sort every so often helps. Heavy boxes are best kept low.

How it’s made

Doors and drawer fronts

The doors and drawer fronts are the face of the storage. They can be plain or panelled, with handles chosen to suit the room. Their tops follow the line of the slope.

Moisture-resistant MDF

In a loft, stability matters, and moisture-resistant MDF is stable. It takes a spray-painted or hand-painted finish well. It forms the doors and panels.

Is bespoke worth it?

A ready-made cupboard pushed into the eaves can block airflow. Bespoke storage is designed so it doesn’t block ventilation or squash insulation. It helps keep the space in good order. Recesses in older houses come in every size except the standard ones, so ready-made units rarely fill them properly. Furniture made for the space fills it.

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

Storage in Bedford Park homes: local notes

In the streets around Bedford Park, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 55%) and the years since 2000 (about 20%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Bedford Park include Church of St Michael and All Angels (Grade II*), under half a mile south-east, and Voysey House (Grade II*), about 0.6 miles south. For a listed home, internal works that affect its character can require listed building consent from the council, for example removing or fixing into original panelling. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. Around Bedford Park, about 55% of homes date from before 1919, well above the figure for Ealing as a whole, about 28%, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. That makes period details like uneven walls, alcoves and picture rails more likely to shape the design.

Close to Turnham Green? Eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things. For families living near Southfield Primary School, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up. The wider area includes historic houses such as Hogarth's House, about 0.9 miles south. If your own home is a period one, the knee walls of a converted loft can take drawers as well as cupboards.
