Not everything around loft storage is carpentry, like an electrician, a plumber or a Gas Safe engineer. Here is what to bear in mind:
- Building work to turn a loft into a room
- Fixing damp or ventilation problems in the eaves
- Any wiring, which needs an electrician
If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can get in touch through our contact form and we will give you a straight answer. Our process from visit to fitting.
What goes into it

Loft storage in Southall: what you get
Our work is in loft rooms that are already converted, or lofts that are boarded. We do not carry out loft conversions, and Building Regulations apply to a conversion. With the room in place, we can plan the storage. If you have a converted loft in Southall, the design visit is the first step. People normally come to us about unused space in a dormer and ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
Landings in houses from between the wars are often roomier than in a Victorian terrace, and that space can take shallow fitted storage. If yours is one of the interwar houses, semis or detached homes that make up much of the housing around Southall, the landing is worth a look as well as the hall. Any boiler or hot water cylinder keeps the access and ventilation its maker asks for.
The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. The finish is stated too, whether that is spray painting or hand painting.

Questions we are often asked
Is Southall in the area you cover for loft storage?
Yes, we work across Ealing, Southall included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with a few details.
Do you cover homes near Southall station?
Yes. We cover all of Ealing and the rest of London. To get started, you can use our contact form with some details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Do you carry out loft conversions?
No. We don’t carry out loft conversions. Our part is the storage once the loft is a finished room, including eaves cupboards, knee-wall drawers and wardrobes.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch, and we will see what we can do.
Do I need to be in when you fit?
We need someone to let us in at the start of the day. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You choose it, and it is agreed with you before painting. Whichever finish you pick, it is in the colour you’ve chosen.
What it costs
Not every room costs the same, and it comes down to:
- The overall size of the piece
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- Doors and drawers, and how many
- Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
Getting to the room affects the job as well. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, which the quote allows for. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design.
What to send when you get in touch
When you contact us, these help most:
- Where you live, with the postcode
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- Examples of the look you are after
If you know what you want, say so; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To start, send us a few details through our contact form.
How fitting works for loft storage
In older rooms, the furniture normally has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site. The time the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturdays can be arranged.
- It starts with a few details from you.
- At the design visit we measure up and agree the layout and colour.
- Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
- We make the cupboards and drawers in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The storage is fitted and scribed to the slopes, and any hand painting is done on site.
- Go easy on new paintwork while it cures; hand-painted surfaces are easy to touch up later.
Before fitting day
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture

Why people ask for loft storage in Southall
A boarded loft can be made far more useful with shelving. Shelves and cupboards keep things off the floor and easy to find. It suits seasonal things and boxes.
Most of the enquiries we get are about needs like these:
- An empty dormer that could hold shelves
- Boxes and suitcases with no home
- A sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe
- A converted loft with no fitted furniture
Near listed buildings like Liberty Cinema, less than half a mile north of the centre of Southall, older homes may keep original joinery that eaves cupboards can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.
Before you choose who makes it
- How they handle walls that aren’t straight
- Will the doors close with even gaps?
- Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work
- Whether the finish is set out in the quote
Why bespoke in Southall?
Standalone furniture can move with you, and it may suit a short stay. Fitted storage stays put, and it makes far more of the loft. Which suits you depends on your plans. Walls in interwar houses are straighter than in older ones, but rarely perfect, so standalone furniture can still lean or leave gaps. Built-in pieces are adjusted to the room on site.
What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We’ll talk through what you need inside during the design visit, and the quote follows.

Fitted storage in Southall
Homes built before 1919 make up about 36% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Southall, with about 32% built between 1919 and 1939, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. That matters for eaves cupboards, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. There are 7 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Southall. Being near listed buildings doesn’t make a home listed, and you can check any address on Historic England’s list. Each London borough runs its own parking controls, and Ealing is no exception. Depending on your street in Southall, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a council bay suspension may be needed. We ask about parking at the measuring visit, so the day can be planned around it.
If you live near Minet Country Park, eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things. Osterley House, about 1.7 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a dormer in a converted loft can hold shelves or a small desk.
