Loft storage in Ealing

Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. We make loft storage for homes in Ealing, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • Wasted space behind the knee walls
  • A loft room that still feels unfinished
  • A boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised

Loft storage for homes in Ealing

Our work is in loft rooms that are already converted, or lofts that are boarded. The conversion itself isn’t our work, and conversions come under Building Regulations. With the room in place, we can plan the storage. In Ealing, it all begins with a design visit. If you are living with an empty dormer that could hold shelves and no wardrobe that fits under the slope, eaves cupboards made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed can solve it.

Around Ealing, a large share of homes date from before 1919, and houses of that age are full of tricky spaces: under the stairs, in the bay, along the hall and under the eaves of a converted loft. That’s where fitted storage comes in, scribed to walls that are rarely straight.

The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If something is not quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Fitted storage in Ealing

About 56% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Ealing went up before 1919, and about 19% since 2000, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Near the centre of Ealing, Historic England’s list includes Pitzhanger Manor House (Grade I), less than half a mile east, and Parish Church of Christ the Saviour (Grade II*), less than half a mile north-east. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. Many London boroughs run controlled parking zones, and the rest of London sets its own rules. Where a street in Ealing is controlled, a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension from the council. Let us know about parking at the measuring visit.

For families living near Ealing Independent College, eaves cupboards can give school bags, shoes and sports kit a proper home. If you live near Walpole Park, eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things. For a flat near Ealing Broadway station, the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it.

Ealing is one of London’s 33 local authority areas. Design visits and fitting in Ealing can be on a Saturday, by arrangement. Our work takes in places right across the rest of London, large and small.

We work across the W5, W13, W3 and NW10 postcode area. Streets in the area include High Street, Coleridge Square and Station Road, and homes on each of them are within our area for loft storage. Ealing is near the A40 and B452; on busy main roads, unloading eaves cupboards takes a little planning. We also cover the places around Ealing: South Ealing (1 mile south), Pitshanger (1 mile north), Brentham Garden Suburb (1 mile north), Hanwell (1 mile west) and West Ealing (1 mile west). Elsewhere in the rest of London, we also cover Acton (2 miles east), Southall (3 miles west), Greenford (3 miles north-west), Northolt (4 miles north-west), Acton Green (2 miles east) and Bedford Park (2 miles east).

What’s near Ealing

Our area takes in the homes around Great Ealing School, Library for Iranian Studies and Christ the Saviour Church of England Primary School. For rail, the closest station is Ealing Broadway station, about 0.5 miles north-east of the centre. Nearby you will also find Ealing Hospital (1.6 miles west) and Gunnersbury Park House - Large Mansion (1.2 miles south-east). For a walk, there is Castlebar Hill and Fox Wood.

Questions we are often asked

I live in a flat in Ealing. How will the furniture get up the stairs?

We measure the route in along with the room itself: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

My house in Ealing is Victorian. Can you deal with uneven walls?

Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether solid brick or lath and plaster.

Do photos help?

Yes, they help. Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. To send them, send us a few details through our contact form.

What are your eaves cupboards made from?

Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish. Both are stable, which matters in a loft room. Your quote confirms the materials and finish.

Can the fitting be on a Saturday?

Yes, Saturdays are possible by arrangement. Just mention it when you get in touch.

What finishes do you offer?

There are two options: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. Your quote sets out which you have chosen.

From workshop to your room

On the morning of the fitting, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. Next, we carry in the sections built in our workshop. The time the fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Terraced streets in London are often lined with parked cars, so details of permits, bays and any loading restrictions help. Unloading is kept short, with sections taken straight inside. Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement.

  1. First you tell us about the loft room and what you’d like to store there.
  2. We come to measure the room and the way up to it, and discuss the design.
  3. You receive a written quote for the storage we’ve discussed.
  4. The cupboards and drawers are made in our workshop, in sections sized for the loft stairs.
  5. The storage is fitted in the loft and checked, door by door.

Before we arrive

  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician ahead of time
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings

How to get a quote

Getting a quote starts with a few details: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of photos if you can take them. To send them, use our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and discuss the design, then send a quote in writing.

How it is made

Doors and drawer fronts

Any door that gives access behind the knee wall can look like the others. It opens wide, so you can still get into the eaves. The other fronts can be doors, drawers or both.

Spray-painted finish

Spraying gives a smooth, even surface. We spray in the workshop, so the finish is complete before fitting. You choose the colour.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them during the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.

In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. We choose fixings to suit the wall, after checking the walls at the measuring visit.

What loft storage cannot fix

Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, so these points are worth knowing:

  • Converting the loft itself, which isn’t our work
  • Insulation or ventilation work behind the eaves
  • Structural changes, like cutting into rafters or joists

Not sure whether your space suits loft storage? You can use our contact form and we’ll tell you before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

Materials and parts

  • Spray-painted finish
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Sloped wardrobe tops
  • Eaves doors and drawers
  • Birch plywood

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Loft walls are rarely straight, and floors are often out of level. Standard furniture leaves visible gaps. We scribe our storage to the slopes and walls, and set it level. The two recesses beside a chimney breast are seldom an identical size, and standard units bought as a pair rarely suit both. Each side can be made to its own size.

Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.
