Acton Loft Storage
Loft storage for your home in Acton: eaves cupboards, drawers and wardrobes in converted lofts. We visit to measure and discuss the design, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it.
- Space under the eaves going to waste
- An empty dormer that could hold shelves
- A converted loft with no fitted furniture
Loft storage in Acton
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Standard furniture does not allow for the insulation and ventilation behind the eaves. We plan the storage around what’s behind the knee wall. It helps keep the space in good order. Standard units come with shelves and rails where the maker put them, which may not suit what you need to store. With fitted furniture, the inside is planned around what you keep.
How it’s painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.

Loft storage for homes in Acton
A loft room can hold a great deal of storage, if the low spaces are used well. We design and make eaves cupboards, drawers in the knee walls, wardrobes under the slopes and shelves in dormers, each shaped to the room. For a home in Acton, it starts with a design visit to measure and talk it through. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about a loft room with too many jobs and no wardrobe that fits under the slope.
Where housing is mixed, as in much of London, floors, walls and ceilings vary from one home to the next. Each piece is scribed to the wall and set level, whatever the room is like. The finish, spray-painted or hand-painted, is agreed with you.
You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and talk it over at home. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Fitting day, step by step
On the morning of the fitting, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. The sections made in our workshop come in next, a piece at a time. The time the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and your quote sets out the fitting days. It helps to clear the room and the route in before fitting day, including pictures on nearby walls. We cover floors and doorways first. Then the sections come in and are joined in place.
- It starts with some details from you.
- At the design visit we measure up and agree the layout and colour.
- Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
- The storage is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, and sprayed there if you chose a spray finish.
- We fit it in the loft and check each door and drawer with you.
- Go easy on new paintwork while it cures; hand-painted surfaces are easy to touch up later.
Before fitting day
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
Starting with a design visit
It helps to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space, along with rough sizes. To share them, fill in our short enquiry form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.
Advice
Caring for painted furniture
These points come up often when people plan loft storage. They’re worth knowing before and after fitting:
- Note how narrow the loft stairs are
- Think about what will go in each cupboard or drawer
- Think about how you’ll reach into the eaves
- Clear the knee-wall spaces before the design visit if you can
Keep the ventilation behind the eaves clear. Leave the gaps we’ve designed in. It helps keep the loft in good order.
Avoid overloading drawers so they keep running smoothly. A quick sort every so often helps. Keep the heaviest things near the floor.
DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, and standard units leave gaps.
Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is quick to buy.
Storage in Acton homes: local notes
The biggest shares of homes in the area around Acton were built before 1919 (about 43%) and since 2000 (about 28%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how eaves cupboards are fixed and fitted. The centre of Acton is within about a quarter of a mile of the Acton Town Centre Conservation Area. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Your council can advise if you’re unsure. London’s red routes are run by TfL, and stopping on them is tightly controlled. If your home in Acton is on or near a main road, tell us at the design visit. Then we can work out where to load and unload.
Near listed buildings like Gala Bingo Club, less than half a mile south of the centre of Acton, older homes may keep original joinery that eaves cupboards can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent. Close to Ealing Common? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place. Living in a block of flats near Acton Central station? Then the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.

What else we make in Acton
How we price loft storage
Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. These are the things that affect it:
- How big the furniture is
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- How square the room is
- Spray painting or hand painting
What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We’ll talk through what you need inside at the design visit, then set it out in the quote.
What we need to know
A few details help us understand the job before we visit. It is useful to include:
- Where you live, with the postcode
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
- Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- Examples of the look you are after
The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A written quote follows the visit, so you can take your time with it. To arrange the visit, message us from the contact page.
Questions we’re often asked
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Acton?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to tell us about parking at the measuring visit.
Will a conservation area stop me having loft storage fitted in Acton?
Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
How much does loft storage cost?
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Drawers in the knee wall usually involve more work than simple cupboards, and the finish matters too. Everything is set out in a written quote after the visit.
What if the wall is cold or damp?
External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps to avoid condensation. If there is damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.
Do you cover areas outside London?
No. We only take on work in London.
Can I send photos before the visit?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough measurements. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.
