Loft storage in Fortis Green, Haringey

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make loft storage for homes in Fortis Green, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • Wasted space behind the knee walls
  • A loft room that doubles as an office or guest room
  • Furniture that cannot get up to the loft

Materials and finishes

Moisture-resistant MDF

In a loft, stability matters, and moisture-resistant MDF is stable. It takes a spray-painted or hand-painted finish well. It forms the doors and panels.

Pull-out drawers

Drawers that pull out make the eaves easy to use. Everything is in view when the drawer is open. They’re designed around any access points behind the knee wall.

Loft storage in Fortis Green

Behind an eaves door, there’s often insulation and a need for ventilation. Storage shouldn’t block the ventilation or squash the insulation. If you have concerns about what’s behind the eaves, ask the people who did the conversion. When we visit in Fortis Green, we will see what’s there. If you are living with a converted loft with no fitted furniture and unused space in a dormer, eaves cupboards made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

Older homes like many around Fortis Green have floors and ceilings that slope, and a large share of the homes around Fortis Green date from then. Each piece is scribed and levelled on site so it looks straight in a room that isn’t. Picture rails, skirting and cornices are worked around rather than removed, and the paint colour is agreed with you.

A written quote is the clearest record of what we’ve agreed. It sets out the eaves cupboard designed for your room, what it’s made from and how it’s finished, and it is what the workshop builds to.

When you need someone else

It helps to know what’s outside our work before you plan:

  • Approval for structural changes
  • Loft conversions, which we do not carry out
  • Altering the structure of the loft

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and we will give you a straight answer. How a job runs, step by step.

What it’s made from

  • Hand-painted finish
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Sloped wardrobe tops
  • Eaves doors and drawers
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Birch plywood

Flat-pack or bespoke?

The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder.

Pricing loft storage in Fortis Green

What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. That depends on:

  • How square the room is
  • The number of doors and drawers
  • How big the furniture is
  • Parking and unloading on your street

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

Before the design visit

Ahead of the design visit, we will normally ask about:

  • Examples of the look you’re after
  • Your postcode and the borough
  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on

To get a quote, message us from the contact page and let us know which room you have in mind and what you want the furniture to do. We then arrange a design visit to measure and go through the design, and a written quote follows.

How fitting works for loft storage

However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and that happens on fitting day. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so we scribe the edges by hand to follow the wall. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Parking on terraced streets can be tight, particularly in a controlled parking zone, so details of permits, bays and any loading restrictions help. The van is unloaded quickly, with the sections carried straight in. Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement.

  1. It starts when you get in touch about storage in your loft.
  2. At the design visit, we look at the slopes, the eaves and the way up.
  3. A quote in writing follows, with the fitting days agreed. You can ask us about any of it.
  4. Your storage is made in our workshop, shaped to the loft.
  5. The storage is fitted and set level, ready to fill.

Preparing the room

  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway

Starting with a design visit

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you don’t, that is fine, and we can work it out together. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To arrange a visit, use our contact form.

FAQs: loft storage in Fortis Green

Is parking a problem for fitting in Fortis Green?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to let us know about parking at the design visit.

My home in Fortis Green is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

We measure the route in not just the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It is useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

Can you fit furniture on an external wall?

It can be done with some care: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. Damp treatment is not something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.

Do you move sockets or add lighting?

No. Electrical work isn’t something we do; it is a job for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design.

What do eaves cupboards cost?

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. The size of the room, the amount of storage and the finish all shape the price. To get a quote, fill in our short enquiry form and we will arrange a design visit.

How long does it take to fit loft storage?

The time the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. The storage is built in our workshop first, so the time in your home is spent fitting. We work tidily and keep the stairs and landing as clear as we can.

Making use of tricky spaces in Fortis Green

Homes built before 1919 make up about 56% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Fortis Green, with about 21% built between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how eaves cupboards are fixed and fitted. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Fortis Green include Odeon Cinema (Grade II*), less than half a mile south-east, and St James's Church Hall (Grade II), less than half a mile south-east. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for instance removing original joinery or fixing into it, can need listed building consent from the council. It’s worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. About 56% of homes in the streets around Fortis Green were built before 1919, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Loft conversions are common in London terraces, and they leave low eaves and sloping ceilings that storage can use; we build storage once the loft is converted or boarded.

For a family home near Fortismere School, deep drawers suit the bulky things families collect, from scooters to swimming kit. If you live in a period home close to United Reformed Church, the knee walls of a converted loft can take drawers as well as cupboards. Heath Hall, about 1.4 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area.
