Common questions about loft storage
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Syon Lane station?
Yes. We cover all of Hounslow and the rest of London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Does a conservation area in or near Gillette Corner affect fitted furniture?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
What happens when you come to measure?
We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and go through the design with you. We will also ask about access and parking, and a quote in writing follows.
Can you add sockets inside the units?
No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician. We will design around them.
Can you fit furniture on an external wall?
It can be done with some care: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. We don’t treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.
Can you build a wardrobe under a sloping ceiling?
Yes. A wardrobe made for the slope fits where a standard one can’t. The tall end takes hanging space, and the low end can hold shelves or drawers. It’s cut to fit the ceiling and walls exactly.
About our loft storage in Gillette Corner
Behind the short walls at the edge of a loft room, there’s often space going to waste. Cupboards and drawers set into the knee wall make that space useful. Pull-out drawers mean you do not have to crawl in. At the design visit in Gillette Corner, we’ll see what fits. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and people most often get in touch about a loft room with too many jobs and nowhere to store bags and boxes.
An interwar house tends to have truer walls than a Victorian one, though rarely square corners. Around Gillette Corner, interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a big part of the housing, so we still scribe every piece to the wall. Each piece is levelled on site, so doors, lids and drawers line up.
You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and talk it over at home. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

What loft storage can’t fix
Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. That means:
- Altering the structure of the loft
- Building work to turn a loft into a room
- Insulation or ventilation work behind the eaves
If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can fill in our short enquiry form and we will give you a straight answer. Our process from visit to fitting.

Loft storage for homes in Gillette Corner
Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 51% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Gillette Corner, with about 20% built since 2000, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). That matters for eaves cupboards, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. The Osterley Park Conservation Area is close by, within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Gillette Corner. Conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. The council can confirm if you are not sure. The ULEZ, run by TfL, takes in all of London, so Hounslow is inside it. Vans bringing furniture to Gillette Corner fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. How the van gets to your door is planned at the measuring visit.
The wider area includes historic houses such as Boston Manor, about 0.7 miles north-east. For a period home anywhere nearby, the knee walls of a converted loft can take drawers as well as cupboards. If you live near Boston Manor Park, eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things. If your children go to Marlborough Primary School or a school nearby, eaves cupboards can give school bags, shoes and sports kit a proper home.

Fitting day, step by step
Once the main sections are fixed in place, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, and then we check it all again. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. In a 1920s or 1930s house, the hall and stairs are usually simple, but the route in is still measured, not just the room. The furniture comes in sections and is put together where it’s going.
- You get in touch and describe the loft room, its slopes and any dormer.
- At the design visit we measure the knee walls and the angle of each slope at more than one point, as they’re rarely even.
- A quote in writing follows, with the design, materials and finish.
- In our workshop we build each section from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood to follow the slope.
- We fit the storage in the loft, trimming the edges so they meet the ceiling neatly.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
Getting a quote
Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and discuss the design with you, and the written quote comes after. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. To book a design visit, use our contact form.

Why bespoke in Gillette Corner?
Loft walls are rarely straight, and floors are often out of level. Ready-made pieces show the gaps. Our storage is scribed to the room and set level, so the lines look right. Ready-made furniture rarely suits a bay, a box room or a bulkhead over the stairs, and interwar homes often have all three. Built-in pieces are designed to fit them.
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.
Why choose us
- Made in moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
- Saturday work by arrangement
- Made in our workshop, then fitted in your home
- Fitted tight to walls that are not straight
Could you do it yourself?
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.
A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls.
Flats, conversions and lettings
Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them at the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.
If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so it is worth raising at the measuring visit.
