Loft storage for homes in Spring Grove

Each eaves cupboard is built in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which suits drawer boxes and carcasses, and MDF gives the doors and panels a smooth surface for paint. Once painted, by spray or by hand, it is carried up and fitted in your home in Spring Grove. If you’re living with ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs and a loft room that doubles as an office or guest room, eaves cupboards made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around Spring Grove, the hallway may be wider than in a Victorian terrace, with room for a cupboard by the door. Bay windows suit seating with drawers or lift-up lids, with a grille so any radiator below keeps heating the room. Eaves cupboards are measured and made for the house you have.

After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you are getting.

Flats, leases and landlords

Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there is a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you contact us.

Many London terraces have been converted into flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it.

What loft storage can’t fix

As carpenters, we leave some work to other trades. These are worth knowing before you plan:

  • Structural changes, such as cutting into rafters or joists
  • Insulation or ventilation work behind the eaves
  • New sockets, lights or wiring, which are for your electrician

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can message us from the contact page and we will give you a straight answer. How it works.

Boards, parts and finishes

  • Spray-painted finish
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Sloped wardrobe tops
  • Birch plywood
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Eaves doors and drawers

What affects the cost of loft storage

The price for your room depends on:

  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • How square the room is
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room

In London, parking can affect the price. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension near your home. It’s useful to talk about parking during the design visit.

What to send when you get in touch

Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:

  • Examples of the look you are after
  • How you want to use the space
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Your postcode and the borough

Getting a quote starts with some details: the room, rough measurements and some pictures if you have them. To send them, drop us a line using the contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and discuss the design, then send a quote in writing.

Questions from Spring Grove

Do you cover homes near Isleworth station?

Yes, homes across Hounslow and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with some details about the room.

Will a conservation area stop me having loft storage fitted in Spring Grove?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.

My walls aren’t straight. Is that a problem?

It is something we deal with all the time. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth, so there are no gaps at the sides.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

There are two options: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. The finish is agreed in your quote.

How do you get large pieces into a loft?

Measuring the route is part of the design visit. Each section is made to fit the narrowest point, and the pieces are put together in the room.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

Someone needs to let us in. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.

How fitting works for loft storage

Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it’s going into, and that happens on fitting day. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so we scribe the edges by hand to follow the wall, closing the gaps a standard unit would leave. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and your quote sets out the fitting days. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.

  1. To begin, send us a few details through our contact form; a brief note on the loft and the storage you want is enough.
  2. We visit to measure the slopes and eaves and talk through cupboards, drawers and wardrobes under them.
  3. Your written quote sets out the storage and the finish.
  4. In our workshop we build each section from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood to follow the slope.
  5. On fitting day the units are set level and scribed to the slope and the knee wall, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

How to prepare

  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall

How to get a quote

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, when we have measured up and talked through the design. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

Close to Inwood Park? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place. Osterley House, about 0.7 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using. Practical tips

The finish lasts best with a little care. Here are our suggestions:

  • Bring paint colours you like to the design visit
  • Make room so the whole loft can be measured
  • Mention any parking rules on your street
  • Find out what’s behind the eaves, from insulation to vents

Keep the ventilation behind the eaves clear. The storage is planned to keep airflow, so leave that space open. It helps keep the loft in good order.

Don’t overfill drawers, as heavy loads strain the runners. A quick sort every so often helps. Keep the heaviest things near the floor.
