Before and after fitting day
Painted fitted furniture is easy to look after. A few things help it stay looking good:
- Mention any parking rules on your street
- Consider drawers for the deep, low spaces
- Think about hanging space for a loft bedroom
- Make room so the whole loft can be measured
Before we leave, we check every door and drawer with you. If there’s an access door to the eaves, we make sure it opens fully. That way, everything works as planned.
Temperatures in a loft room can swing more than elsewhere. A little ventilation helps. It helps the storage stay in good condition.
Loft storage for homes in Osterley
Sloping ceilings make standard wardrobes hard to fit. A wardrobe made for the slope follows its angle, with hanging where there’s height and shelves or drawers lower down. It uses the full height of the room. The design visit in Osterley is where we work it out. People usually come to us about needing storage in a loft office and a sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe, and the answer is made in our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
A good part of the housing around Osterley is interwar, semi-detached or detached. In a typical 1930s house, storage tends to hide in the bay, under the stairs and in the box room. Any meters or fuse board under the stairs stay accessible, and the storage is planned around them.
After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It sets out the design we have talked through, the materials and the finish.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t usually do that in an older room.
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, and standard units leave gaps.
Fitted storage in Osterley
In the streets around Osterley, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 53%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 15%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Part of Osterley is in the Osterley Park Conservation Area, one of the conservation areas recorded by Historic England. Planning controls in conservation areas are mainly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitting furniture inside a house does not normally need permission. Your council can advise if you are unsure. The ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) now covers the whole of London, Hounslow included. It applies to the vans that deliver and fit furniture in Osterley, as it does anywhere else in London. We plan parking and access with you during the design visit.
For an older house near St Mary's Church, the knee walls of a converted loft can take drawers as well as cupboards. Close to Inwood Park? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place.

What else we make in Osterley
From workshop to your room
Every fitting follows the same order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. It is useful to clear the room and the route before we arrive. Fitting day starts with protecting the floors and setting out the pieces. Each piece is levelled, scribed where the wall wanders and fixed to suit the wall.
- First we hear about the loft room and what you’d like to store.
- We measure the eaves, the slopes and the stairs up to the loft.
- The design is agreed and a quote in writing follows.
- Every part is made in our workshop, ready for a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
- The storage is fitted, scribed to the slopes and checked with you. Any hand painting is done in the loft.
Preparing the room
- Tell us about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings

Advice
Common questions about loft storage
Do you cover homes near Isleworth station?
Yes, homes across Hounslow and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Osterley?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.
How long will the loft storage fitting take?
How long the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Because everything is made at our workshop, the work in your home is the fitting itself. We work tidily and keep the stairs and landing as clear as we can.
Do you do the electrics?
No. Electrical work is not something we do; it’s a job for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design, and any new sockets are best done before fitting day.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you.
Which materials go into your loft storage?
Our loft storage is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then painted. Both are stable, which matters in a loft room. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.
Where other trades come in
Not everything around loft storage is carpentry, such as an electrician, a plumber or an engineer on the Gas Safe Register. Here is what to bear in mind:
- Converting the loft itself, which isn’t our work
- Any work on the structure of the house
- Insulation or ventilation work behind the eaves
If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can use our contact form and we will give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

Do you need loft storage in Osterley?
A new loft conversion often needs storage to finish it. The room is there, but the furniture to fit it isn’t. Storage made for the slopes completes it.
Loft storage can help with:
- Ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs
- Low eaves that nobody can use
- No wardrobe that fits under the slope
- An empty dormer that could hold shelves
For a flat near Isleworth station, it is useful to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day.
Before you hire any carpenter
- Can you see real work of theirs?
- Will the quote be in writing?
- Where they’ll park and unload
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
