Loft Storage in Heston

Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. Our work on loft storage in Heston starts with a design visit, and everything is built in our workshop.

  • A boarded loft with no proper shelving
  • An empty dormer that could hold shelves
  • A loft room that still feels unfinished

Loft storage for your home in Heston

When is bespoke worth it?

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is easy to buy.

Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture typically costs less up front. Bespoke earns its place where the room is awkward, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.

Loft storage in Heston

Many loft rooms are bedrooms, and storage for clothes is the first need. A wardrobe under the slope, knee-wall drawers and dormer shelves make a complete set. Planned together, they make the room feel ordered. For a home in Heston, it’s planned around your things. Typical reasons to get in touch are a boarded loft with no proper shelving and boxes and suitcases with no home, and the answer is made at our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

Around Heston, with interwar houses or semis making up much of the housing, the hallway may be wider than in a Victorian terrace, with room for a cupboard by the door. Bays at the front suit a seat with storage below, with a grille so any radiator below keeps heating the room. Eaves cupboards are measured and made for the house you have.

If the job needs another trade, like an electrician or a plumber, we’ll tell you, so it can be arranged before fitting day. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

What we do not do

We make and fit furniture, and we do not do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. There are a few other points to bear in mind:

  • New sockets, lights or wiring, which are for your electrician
  • Building Regulations approval for a conversion
  • Building work to turn a loft into a room

Not sure whether your space suits loft storage? You can fill in our short enquiry form and we will tell you. How a job runs, step by step.

What it’s made from

  • Birch plywood
  • Eaves doors and drawers
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Sloped wardrobe tops
  • Spray-painted finish

Fitting day, step by step

Getting everything level comes first. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. To begin, tell us about the room on our contact form; a brief note on the loft and the storage you want is enough.
  2. At the design visit we measure the knee walls and the angle of each slope at more than one point, as they’re rarely even.
  3. A written quote follows, with the design, materials and finish.
  4. The storage is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, cut to the angles we measured.
  5. We fit the storage in the loft, trimming the edges so they meet the ceiling neatly.

How to prepare

  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are

Arranging a design visit

You do not need exact measurements to get started. We measure everything properly at the design visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To arrange it, tell us about the room on our contact form with a few details about the room. You receive a written quote after the visit.

Fitted storage in Heston

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 44% of the housing in the area around Heston, with about 33% built between 1945 and 1972, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Near the centre of Heston, Historic England’s list includes Church of St Leonard (Grade II*), under half a mile east, and Vicarage of St Leonards Parish Church (Grade II), under half a mile east. If your own home is listed, changes inside that alter its character, such as fixing into or removing original joinery, may need listed building consent. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. About 33% of homes in the streets around Heston were built between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. In a post-war house with a converted loft, the space under the slopes is worth using.

Osterley House, about 1.2 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using. If you live near Inwood Park, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place. For families living near Westbrook Primary School, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up.

Heston is within the London Borough of Hounslow, about 2 miles south-east of Hounslow. Design visits and fitting in Heston can be on a Saturday, by arrangement. In Hounslow, Heston is one of the places we cover.

Design visits and fitting in TW5, UB2 and TW3 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. Whether you live on a street like Fern Lane, Sutton Road and Eton Avenue or on one nearby, we can arrange a design visit for loft storage. The A3005 run close to Heston; on busy main roads, unloading eaves cupboards takes a little planning. Close by, we also work in North Hyde (1 mile north), Norwood Green (1 mile north-east), Lampton (1 mile south-east), Hounslow West (1 mile south) and Osterley (1 mile east). Elsewhere in Hounslow, we also cover Hounslow (2 miles south-east), Feltham (3 miles south-west), Brentford (3 miles east), Isleworth (2 miles south-east), Chiswick (5 miles east) and Strand-on-the-Green (4 miles east).

Flats, conversions and lettings

For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. An agent can arrange access for you.

If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so it’s worth raising at the design visit.

Before and after fitting day

These points come up often when people plan loft storage. They’re worth knowing before and after fitting:

  • Decide whether you’d prefer drawers, cupboards or both
  • Make room so the whole loft can be measured
  • Note the things that need a home in the loft
  • Plan where the tall end of a wardrobe can go

We open each door and run each drawer with you before we go. Any access to the eaves is checked so it still opens. You’ll know it all works as it should.

Avoid overloading drawers so they keep running smoothly. It helps to clear out now and then. Keep the heaviest things near the floor.

Your questions about loft storage in Heston

Do you cover homes near Southall station?

Yes, homes across Hounslow and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Heston?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, so the day can be planned around it.

Do you do the loft conversion too?

No, the conversion itself is not our work. We design and fit storage once the room is in place, including eaves cupboards, knee-wall drawers and wardrobes.

Does fitted furniture need planning permission?

Not normally. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need it. Listed buildings are different: check with the council’s conservation officer first.

Can the fitting be on a Saturday?

Yes, by arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you contact us.

What if the wall is cold or damp?

External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.
