Loft storage for your home in North End
Loft storage in North End: local notes
Homes built before 1919 make up about 68% of the housing in the area around North End, with about 11% built between 1973 and 1999, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Within a mile of the centre of North End, 12 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings. Purpose-built flats are home to about 53% of households in the neighbourhood around North End, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. For a flat, eaves cupboards are made in sections sized for the stairs, the lift and the doors. Many blocks have rules on lift booking and working hours, so check with the managing agent before fitting day.
Garden Lodge, about 0.4 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, the knee walls of a converted loft can take drawers as well as cupboards. For an older house near St. Andrew's Fulham Fields, eaves cupboards in a converted loft are scribed to slopes that are rarely even.
North End is about 1 mile south of Fulham, in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. We cover North End as part of our work across Hammersmith and Fulham, and the process is the same everywhere we work. North End is one of the places in Hammersmith and Fulham where we make loft storage, and the borough has 16 places on our list.
Postcode districts we cover here for loft storage: W14, SW6 and SW5. We cover homes on streets like Sun Road, Star Road and Field Road, along with the roads around them, for loft storage and any of our other fitted furniture. Nearby, we also make loft storage in West Kensington (1 mile east), Brook Green (1 mile north-west), Fulham (1 mile south), Hammersmith (1 mile west) and Brackenbury Village (1 mile north-west). Elsewhere in Hammersmith and Fulham, we also cover Chelsea Harbour (2 miles south-east), Sands End (2 miles south-east), White City (2 miles north-west), College Park (3 miles north-west) and Old Oak Common (3 miles north-west).

How we make loft storage for North End
Our work is in loft rooms that are already converted, or lofts that are boarded. The conversion itself isn’t our work, and conversions come under Building Regulations. With the room in place, we can plan the storage. If you have a converted loft in North End, the design visit is the first step. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are an empty dormer that could hold shelves and needing storage in a loft office.
Hallways in period terraces are often long and narrow, with the stairs rising along one wall. Around North End, a large share of homes date from before 1919, so every bit of depth is weighed up when storage is planned. Even shallow storage can hold a lot without narrowing the way through.
The quote comes in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and talk it over at home. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Fitting day, step by step
You will not need to do much on the day. Someone needs to let us in, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. The time the fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Original hallway tiles and old floorboards are worth protecting, so they’re covered before anything comes in. Drilling into lath and plaster is done with care, so the plaster around stays sound. Decorating around the furniture afterwards is for your decorator.
- It starts when you get in touch with a few details about the loft.
- We visit to measure the eaves and slopes and go through the design.
- A quote in writing follows, with the design, finish and fitting days set out.
- We make every part in our workshop, cut to the angle of the slope.
- We fit it in your home, scribed to the slopes and the walls, with the finish sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
- Tell us about parking near your home
- Clear the area where the furniture is going

To make a start, get in touch through our contact form and tell us a little about the room. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and a written quote follows.

Your questions about loft storage in North End
Will a conservation area stop me having loft storage fitted in North End?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in North End?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It is useful to tell us about parking at the measuring visit.
What happens at the measuring visit?
We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and go through the design with you. Access and parking are worth talking about too.
What materials do you use for loft storage?
Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish. Stable materials suit a loft, where temperatures can vary. Your quote confirms the materials and finish.
Will you paint the walls around the furniture?
No. Our work is the furniture, not the walls, so any work on the walls is for a plasterer or decorator. The furniture is finished by spray or by hand, as agreed in your quote.
Where is the furniture made?
It’s made in our workshop, to the sizes taken at the design visit. Then we bring it to your home and fit it.

Looking after your furniture
A little care keeps the finish looking good. Here are our suggestions:
- Think about hanging space for a loft bedroom
- Note the things that need a home in the loft
- Let us know about parking near your home
- Consider drawers for the deep, low spaces
When you load the drawers and cupboards, put heavy things low. That keeps the drawers running smoothly. We size the shelves for what you said you’d keep there.
Don’t overfill drawers, as heavy loads strain the runners. A quick sort every so often helps. Keep the heaviest things near the floor.
Flats, blocks and rented homes
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We can’t give advice on leases.
For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants. An agent can arrange access for you.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.
Is it time for loft storage?
A boarded loft can be made far more useful with shelving. Shelves and cupboards keep things off the floor and easy to find. It’s ideal for things you need now and then.
Here’s what loft storage can help with:
- A new loft conversion that needs storage
- Needing storage in a loft office
- Boxes and suitcases with no home
- No wardrobe that fits under the slope
If your children go to The Fulham Boys School or a school nearby, eaves cupboards can give school bags, shoes and sports kit a proper home.
What to check before you book
- Whether the route into your home has been checked
- Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
- Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
- Where they’ll park and unload
