Need loft storage in Hammersmith?

Flats, leases and landlords

In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Let us know about it when you get in touch.

Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Tell us about them during the design visit.

Loft storage in Hammersmith: what you get

A sloping ceiling leaves little room for a standard wardrobe. A wardrobe made for the slope follows its angle, with hanging where there’s height and shelves or drawers lower down. It makes the most of the room’s height. We’ll plan it at the measuring visit in Hammersmith. If your home has nowhere to store bags and boxes and a boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised, that is what eaves cupboards are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

Older homes like many around Hammersmith have floors and ceilings that slope, and a large share of homes around Hammersmith are that old. Each piece is scribed and levelled on site so it looks straight in a room that isn’t. Picture rails, skirting and cornices are worked around rather than removed.

The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it is easier before the furniture is made.

How fitting day works

However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and fitting day is where that happens. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, closing the gaps a standard unit would leave. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and your quote sets out the fitting days. On fitting day in an older house, the main job is scribing to walls and levelling on floors that slope, so each piece is trimmed and adjusted on site. Floors are protected, and dust is kept down as far as possible. It helps to tell us about parking at the design visit, as terraced streets are often busy.

  1. First you let us know about the loft room and what you’d like to store there, and how you get up to it.
  2. At the design visit we measure the knee walls, slopes and stairs and plan the storage with you.
  3. A written quote follows, with the design, finish and fitting days set out, for you to look over.
  4. Your storage is built in our workshop and painted to your chosen colour. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit it in your home, scribed to the slopes and the walls.

Before fitting day

  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room

Starting with a design visit

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, when we have measured up and talked through the design. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

Loft storage for homes in Hammersmith

The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Hammersmith were built before 1919 (about 68%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 9%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. That matters for eaves cupboards, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Hammersmith include Convent and School of the Sacred Heart (Grade II*), under half a mile south-east, and Church of the Holy Innocents (Grade II*), less than half a mile west. If your own home is listed, works inside that affect its character, like fixing into or removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. About 68% of homes in the streets around Hammersmith were built before 1919, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Loft conversions are common in London terraces, and they leave low eaves and sloping ceilings that storage can use.

For families living near Corona Theatre School, eaves cupboards can be planned around what a family needs to keep, from coats and bags to sports kit. If your home is one of the older houses near Church of the Holy Innocents, a dormer in a converted loft can hold shelves or a small desk. Kelmscott House, about 0.5 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using.

What it costs

A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:

  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • How big the furniture is

Every room is priced on its own, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

Getting in touch

To give us a picture of the room, it is useful to include:

  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • Approximate measurements of the space

The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A quote in writing follows the visit. To book one, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there is usually a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.

Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, and standard units leave gaps.

Bespoke loft storage or ready-made?

In a loft room, walls and floors are seldom square. Standard furniture leaves visible gaps. We scribe our storage to the slopes and walls, and set it level. Standard units assume square rooms, and period homes seldom have them, so you end up with gaps, wobbles and units that don’t meet the skirting. Fitted pieces follow the wall and sit level.

Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. Let us know about parking during the design visit, so it can be planned.

Your questions about loft storage in Hammersmith

Will a conservation area stop me having loft storage fitted in Hammersmith?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

Do you cover homes near Kensington Olympia station?

Yes, homes across Hammersmith and Fulham and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with some details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Who chooses the colour?

You do. We agree the colour with you.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.

How long does it take to fit loft storage?

How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. We make the cupboards and drawers in our workshop, so the time at your home is spent fitting. If you’d like the fitting on a Saturday, that can be arranged.

Should I send photos?

Yes, they help. Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. To send them, drop us a line using the contact form.
