Loft storage in Silvertown, Newham

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on loft storage in Silvertown starts with a design visit, and everything is made in our workshop.

  • Wasted space behind the knee walls
  • No wardrobe that fits under the slope

Flats, conversions and lettings

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, as it makes good use of an tricky room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

For flats on red routes or busy main roads, unloading takes some planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so it’s worth raising during the design visit.

Loft storage for homes in Silvertown

We build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded. The conversion itself is not our work, and conversions come under Building Regulations. With the room in place, we can plan the storage. If you have a converted loft in Silvertown, the design visit is the first step. We make eaves cupboards from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the things people most often want solved are standard furniture that won’t go up the loft stairs and a converted loft with no fitted furniture.

Floors in newer homes are often finished and easy to mark, so we cover them while we work. Many homes around Silvertown were built since 2000, and their plasterboard walls need fixings into the studs or made for the board. The storage can sit on its own plinth or be scribed over the skirting.

Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. The finish is stated too, whether that’s spray painting or hand painting.

Common questions about loft storage

Is Silvertown in the area you cover for loft storage?

Yes, Silvertown is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Newham and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, and then we send a quote.

How do you fit loft storage in a flat in Silvertown?

At the design visit, we measure the way in as well as the room. Eaves cupboards are made in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.

Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?

Walls and floors that aren’t true are part of the job in older homes. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth, so there are no gaps at the sides.

How is loft storage priced?

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Drawers in the knee wall usually involve more work than simple cupboards, and the finish matters too. Everything is set out in a quote in writing after the visit.

How is the furniture painted?

There are two choices: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.

How long is the fitting for eaves storage?

How long fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. The storage is built in our workshop first, so the time in your home is spent fitting. We work tidily and keep the stairs and landing as clear as we can.

How fitting works for loft storage

Fitting day follows a set order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. The time the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. In a newer development, the lift, the concierge and set working hours may all need checking, so check them with the managing agent before fitting day. The furniture is built in sections that fit the lift and doorways.

  1. You get in touch and describe the loft room, its slopes and any dormer.
  2. At the design visit we measure the knee walls and the angle of each slope at more than one point, as they’re rarely even.
  3. Your written quote sets out the storage and the finish.
  4. The storage is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, cut to the angles we measured.
  5. We fit the storage in the loft, trimming the edges so they meet the ceiling neatly, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

Before fitting day

  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves

Arranging a design visit

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Is bespoke worth it?

A standalone wardrobe can go with you when you move. Fitted storage stays put, and it makes far more of the loft. Which suits you depends on your plans. Rooms in newer homes are often compact, and standard depths can take too much floor, while fitted furniture can be made shallower where space is tight. It can still go to the ceiling.

Every room is priced on its own, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

When is bespoke worth it?

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is easy to buy.

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.

When you need someone else

Before you plan the job, it is useful to know what we do not do:

  • New sockets, lights or wiring, which are for your electrician
  • Fixing damp or ventilation problems in the eaves
  • Loft conversions, which we don’t carry out

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and we will give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

  • Birch plywood
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Eaves doors and drawers
  • Sloped wardrobe tops

Making use of awkward spaces in Silvertown

In the neighbourhood around Silvertown, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 84%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 13%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. A conservation area lies within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Silvertown, according to Historic England’s records. Conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If you are unsure, check with the council before work starts. About 89% of households in the streets around Silvertown live in purpose-built flats, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. For a flat, eaves cupboards are made in sections sized for the stairs, the lift and the doors. Building management rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours are worth checking early.

Living in a block of flats near Custom House station? Then the route in is measured along with the room itself, and the sections are sized to fit it. Queen's House, about 1.9 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, sloping ceilings in a loft room suit wardrobes cut to the angle.
