Loft storage in North End, Bexley

Thinking about loft storage in North End? It starts with a design visit to measure and talk through ideas, then a quote in writing, before anything is made.

  • Standard furniture that will not go up the loft stairs
  • Clothes with nowhere to go in a loft bedroom
  • Unused space in a dormer

Loft storage in North End

Loft storage in North End

Behind an eaves door, there is often insulation and a need for ventilation. Storage shouldn’t block the ventilation or squash the insulation. If you have concerns about what’s behind the eaves, ask the people who did the conversion. We look at this at the measuring visit in North End. We make eaves cupboards from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs and unused space in a dormer.

Many homes around North End date from the post-war decades, and London’s post-war housing includes flats in blocks as well as houses. Post-war houses usually have space under the stairs that can do more, while in a flat, the hallway and any recess are the places to look. Any meters, fuse boards or boilers stay reachable, with the clearances their makers set out.

Everything we agree during the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something is not quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Spray-painted finish

Spray painting gives the storage a very even surface. It is applied in our workshop, and the paint needs time to cure fully once fitted.

Pull-out drawers

The space behind a knee wall is deep and low, so drawers that slide out are often the answer. You see everything at once. We plan them around any access the eaves need.

What it costs

What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. The main factors are:

  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • How square the room is
  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room

We don’t publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a written quote, naming the materials and finish. To arrange a design visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

Getting in touch

When you contact us, these help most:

  • Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • Examples of the look you are after
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, once the room is measured and the design talked through. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

FAQs: loft storage in North End

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in North End?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking at the measuring visit, and we’ll plan around it.

Is North End in the area you cover for loft storage?

Yes. We cover all of Bexley and the rest of London, and North End is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

Do you move sockets or add lighting?

No. Electrical work is not something we do; it’s a job for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.

Do you do the loft conversion too?

No, we build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded. Loft conversions are building work, with Building Regulations to follow. When the room is finished, we can plan the storage.

Can you get furniture up narrow loft stairs?

We make the storage in sections sized for the route. We measure the way up along with the room itself. That way, even a large wardrobe can reach the loft.

Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?

That’s normal in older homes, and it’s what scribing is for. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.

When is bespoke worth it?

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls.

The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

What happens on fitting day

If anything comes up on the day, just ask. Most of the decisions were made at the measuring visit and set out in your quote, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving the room tidy. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Stairwells in post-war blocks can have tight turns, so the size of each section is set by the stairs as well as the lift. Letting the caretaker or managing agent know beforehand helps. Common parts are protected while we carry in.

  1. First you let us know about the loft room and what you’d like to store there.
  2. We visit to measure the eaves and slopes and talk through the design, including the headroom under the slope.
  3. A written quote follows, with the design, finish and fitting days set out, for you to look over.
  4. Your storage is built in our workshop and painted to your chosen colour.
  5. The storage is fitted in the loft and checked, door by door.

Before we arrive

  • Keep pets in another room while we work
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture

Ask for a quote

If you know what you want, say so; if you do not, that is fine, and we can work it out together. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, use our contact form.

Advice

Storage in North End homes: local notes

Homes built between 1945 and 1972 make up about 33% of the housing in the area around North End, with about 29% built between 1973 and 1999, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. The Oak Road Conservation Area is close by, within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of North End. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. The council can confirm if you’re not sure. Controlled parking zones are common across London, and Bexley sets its own rules. If your road in North End falls in a zone, the van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Parking near your home is worth mentioning during the design visit.

If your home is one of the older houses near St. Augustine's Church, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using. Close to Braeburn Park? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place. For a flat near Slade Green station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.

North End is about 5 miles south-west of Sidcup, in the London Borough of Bexley. North End is part of the area we cover. Across Bexley, we cover North End, along with the rest of the borough.

Every address in DA8, DA1 and DA7 is covered for loft storage. If your home is on a street like Oak Road, Elm Road and Moat Lane, or close by, we can visit to measure up for loft storage. Neighbouring places we cover for loft storage include Slade Green (1 mile east), Bexley Riverside (1 mile west), Barnehurst (1 mile west) and Northumberland Heath (1 mile west). Elsewhere in Bexley, we also cover Sidcup (5 miles south-west), Welling (4 miles west), Bexley (3 miles south-west), Belvedere (2 miles north-west), Lessness Heath (2 miles north-west) and Bexleyheath (2 miles west).

Our area takes in the homes around Railway Tavern and Haberdashers' Aske's Crayford Academy and the streets around them. North End has its own railway station: Slade Green station. Nearby you will also find Erith Museum (1.2 miles north-west) and Erith and District Hospital (1.4 miles north-west).

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

With ready-made furniture, the colour is the maker’s choice. Ours is spray-painted or hand-painted in a colour agreed with you, so it can match the walls and the woodwork. Fixing standalone furniture to concrete or blockwork can be awkward, whereas fitted pieces are designed with fixings that suit the wall. It matters most for tall cupboards and full shelves.

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.
