Fitted storage in Plashet
The biggest shares of homes in the area around Plashet were built before 1919 (about 71%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 13%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Near the centre of Plashet, Historic England’s list includes Passmore Edwards Library (Grade II), under half a mile south-west, and East Ham Underground Station (Grade II), less than half a mile south-east. For a listed home, changes inside that alter its character can require listed building consent from the council, for example removing or fixing into original panelling. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. More than half of the homes in the area around Plashet (about 71%) were built before 1919, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Many older terraces have had loft conversions, leaving eaves spaces and slopes that suit fitted storage; we build storage once the loft is converted or boarded.
Valentines Mansion, about 2.2 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, the knee walls of a converted loft can take drawers as well as cupboards. If your home is one of the older houses near Church of St Barnabas, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using. For a flat near Woodgrange Park station, the route in is measured along with the room itself, and the sections are sized to fit it.
Plashet is about 2 miles south-west of Plaistow, in the London Borough of Newham. Whether your home in Plashet is a terraced house, a flat or a newer build, the furniture is designed around the room as we find it. Plashet is one of 26 places on our list for Newham.
We work across the E6, E12 and E7 postcode area. Our area takes in homes on streets like Fry Road, Edith Road and Hilda Road, for loft storage and any of our other fitted furniture. We also make loft storage in nearby places like Plaistow (2 miles south-west), Stratford (2 miles west), Canning Town (2 miles south-west), Maryland (2 miles west), East Village (3 miles west) and Three Mills (3 miles south-west).

Loft storage in Plashet
Behind the short walls at the edge of a loft room, there is often space going to waste. Cupboards and drawers set into the knee wall make that space useful. Pull-out drawers mean you don’t have to crawl in. We measure and plan for the space you have in Plashet. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the things people most often want solved are seasonal things cluttering the loft room and standard furniture that won’t go up the loft stairs.
Older homes like many around Plashet have floors and ceilings that slope, and a large share of the homes around Plashet date from then. Each piece is scribed and levelled on site so it looks straight in a room that is not. Original skirting and mouldings are met neatly.
You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and share it with anyone else involved. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Flats, conversions and lettings
Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them during the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.
We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let. It’s made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, with a spray or hand-painted finish.
Your questions about loft storage in Plashet
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Plashet?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It is useful to tell us about parking at the design visit.
Do you make loft storage for homes in Plashet?
Yes. Plashet is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Newham and London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with some details.
Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?
Not normally. Inside a house, fitted furniture does not normally need planning permission. If the building is listed, works affecting its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
Does eaves storage affect the insulation?
Not if it’s planned with care. The storage is planned around the insulation and ventilation behind the knee wall. For worries about existing insulation or vents, ask the people who did the conversion.
Do you do the loft conversion too?
No, the conversion itself is not our work. We design and fit storage once the room is in place, from eaves cupboards to wardrobes under the slopes.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, by arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you get in touch.
What we don’t do
It helps to know what’s outside our work before you plan:
- Electrical work in the loft
- Loft conversions, which we do not carry out
- Structural changes, such as cutting into rafters or joists
If in doubt, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and describe the room. How a job runs, step by step.
Materials and parts
- Birch plywood
- Sloped wardrobe tops
- Hand-painted finish
- Spray-painted finish
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Eaves doors and drawers
Before and after fitting day
Painted fitted furniture is easy to look after with a little care. A few things help it stay looking good:
- Empty the eaves so we can see what’s behind
- Find out what’s behind the eaves, from insulation to vents
- Let us know about parking near your home
- Think about what will go in each cupboard or drawer
Keep the ventilation behind the eaves clear. The storage is planned to keep airflow, so leave that space open. It helps keep the loft in good order.
Loft rooms can be warm in summer and cool in winter. Keep the room ventilated. That keeps the storage and the paint in good order.
How fitting day works
At the end, we tidy up. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and explain how to look after the paint. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. In a period home, the furniture is fitted to walls that aren’t straight, so there is some trimming and adjusting on site. We protect the floors and keep dust to a minimum. Parking can be tight on terraced streets, so let us know about permits and bays during the design visit.
- You tell us about your converted or boarded loft, including the eaves and any dormer.
- At the design visit, the room and the route up are measured.
- The design is agreed and a quote in writing follows.
- Every part is made at our workshop, ready for a spray-painted or hand-painted finish. It’s made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The storage is fitted, scribed to the slopes and checked with you.
Before we arrive
- Keep pets in another room while we work
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
Arranging a design visit
We quote once we have seen the room. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a written quote. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.

How it’s made
Moisture-resistant MDF
MDF cuts cleanly, which suits the angled panels under a sloping ceiling. The grade we use is moisture-resistant and paints well. Most of what you see is MDF.
Plinths and scribe strips
We trim scribe strips to the exact line of the wall and ceiling. They’re one reason fitted storage looks built in. The plinth does the same job at the floor.
