About our loft storage in Putney
A sloping ceiling leaves little room for a standard wardrobe. A wardrobe made for the slope follows its angle, with hanging where there is height and shelves or drawers lower down. It uses the full height of the room. The design visit in Putney is where we work it out. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a dormer that isn’t being used and wasted space behind the knee walls.
Many post-war homes have a boiler in a hall, kitchen or landing cupboard. Any new cupboard around it keeps the clearances its manufacturer sets out. Because many homes around Putney date from the post-war years, we look for boilers, meters and fuse boards during the design visit. Work on the boiler itself is for a Gas Safe engineer.
We write quotes in plain English, without jargon. You will see what will be made, the boards used and the finish, all taken from the design visit.

Questions we are often asked
Is parking a problem for fitting in Putney?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to let us know about parking during the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Putney station?
Yes. We cover all of Wandsworth and the rest of London. To get started, you can use our contact form with a few details about the room.
Who chooses the colour?
You do. The paint colour is agreed with you, and it’s set out in the quote.
Should I send pictures?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
We need someone to let us in. It’s good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two options: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. Your quote sets out which you have chosen.

Storage in Putney homes: local notes
In the area around Putney, the largest groups of homes date from between 1945 and 1972 (about 32%) and before 1919 (about 28%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. 17 conservation areas have at least part of their area less than a mile from the middle of Putney. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. Since the zone was extended to the outer boroughs in August 2023, the whole of London has been inside the ULEZ. So any van that delivers or fits furniture in Putney is covered by it. We go through parking and access at the measuring visit.
The wider area includes historic houses like Fulham Palace, about 0.6 miles north-east. For a period home anywhere nearby, a dormer in a converted loft can hold shelves or a small desk. If you live near Bishops Park, eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Church of St Mary the Virgin, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.
Putney is in the London Borough of Wandsworth, about 2 miles east of Clapham Junction. Anywhere in Putney, it works the same way: a design visit, a quote in writing, furniture made in our workshop and fitting in your home. We cover places right across Wandsworth.
We make loft storage across the SW15, SW19 and SW13 postcode area. We cover homes on streets like Putney High Street, Upper Richmond Road and Spencer Walk, along with the roads around them, whether you want loft storage or another piece made for the room. The A3 and B306 runs close to Putney; on busy main roads, unloading eaves cupboards takes a little planning. Close by, we also work in Roehampton (1 mile south-west), Barnes (1 mile north-west), Fulham (1 mile north-east), Mortlake (2 miles west) and Wimbledon Park (2 miles south). We also make loft storage in nearby places such as Clapham Junction (2 miles east), Battersea (2 miles east), Tooting (3 miles south-east), Tooting Bec (3 miles south-east), Balham (3 miles south-east) and Southfields (2 miles south-east). What loft storage cannot fix
Not everything around loft storage is carpentry, from an electrician to a plumber or a Gas Safe registered engineer. Here’s what to know:
- Structural changes, like cutting into rafters or joists
- Loft conversions, which we don’t carry out
- New sockets, lights or wiring, which are for your electrician
If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can drop us a line using the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. How it works.

Could you do it yourself?
Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it’s quick to buy.
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
Materials and finishes
Pull-out drawers
Drawers in the knee wall let you use the deep, low space without crawling in. Each one is sized for what it will hold. They suit clothes, bedding and boxes.
Plinths and scribe strips
We trim scribe strips to the exact line of the wall and ceiling. They help the storage look as though it was always there. At floor level, the plinth hides any slope in the floor.
Fitting day, step by step
With the carcasses fixed and level, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, then checked again. The time the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Post-war houses tend to have simple halls and stairs, so carrying in is rarely difficult. Even so, the route is measured at the measuring visit. The pieces are assembled, levelled and fixed in place.
- You tell us about your converted or boarded loft.
- We measure the eaves, the slopes and the stairs up to the loft.
- We agree the cupboards, drawers and wardrobes, and send a quote in writing.
- The storage is made in our workshop, in sections sized for the stairs.
- The storage is fitted, scribed to the slopes and checked with you. Any hand painting is done in the loft.
Before we arrive
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone

Why bespoke in Putney?
With ready-made furniture, the colour is the maker’s choice. Ours is spray-painted or hand-painted in a colour agreed with you, so it can match the walls and the woodwork. Skirting boards stop standalone furniture sitting flat against the wall, and that gap catches dust and wastes depth. Fitted furniture is scribed over the skirting or set on its own plinth.
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. A larger piece means more material and more time. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.
