Loft storage in Clapham Junction

About our loft storage in Clapham Junction

We make each eaves cupboard in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which suits drawer boxes and carcasses, and MDF gives the doors and panels a smooth surface for paint. It is then spray-painted or hand-painted and fitted in your home in Clapham Junction. Typical reasons to get in touch are standard furniture that won’t go up the loft stairs and a boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised, and the answer is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

Ceilings and floors in homes built before 1919 are rarely level, and a large share of homes around Clapham Junction are that old. Eaves cupboards are scribed to the walls and levelled on site so doors, lids and drawers run true. Picture rails, skirting and cornices are worked around rather than removed.

The quote comes in writing, so there is time to read it properly and share it with anyone else involved. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. An agent can arrange access for you.

If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways along with the room itself, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through.

How it’s made

Birch plywood

We use birch plywood where strength matters. It suits carcasses, drawer boxes and shelves. Its layered edge can be shown or painted.

Moisture-resistant MDF

A loft room can see more change in temperature than other rooms, so a stable material matters. It takes a spray-painted or hand-painted finish well. It forms the doors and panels.

How fitting day works

Once the main sections are fixed in place, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly, then checked again. The time the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. On fitting day, edges are trimmed on site to follow the walls, so a clear area to work in near the room helps. Dust is kept down and cleared up as we go. Hand painting, if that’s your finish, can follow the fitting.

  1. You contact us about storage in your converted loft.
  2. At the design visit we plan the storage and measure the stairs, landings and loft doorway. Tell us about parking too, as a van often needs a permit or a paid bay.
  3. We send a quote in writing.
  4. Everything is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections small enough for the loft stairs.
  5. We carry the sections up, join them in the room and scribe them to fit. The finish is sprayed in the workshop or hand-painted in the loft.

Preparing the room

  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Tell us about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area

Starting with a design visit

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, when we have measured up and talked through the design. To arrange a visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Questions from Clapham Junction

Do you make loft storage for homes in Clapham Junction?

Yes. Clapham Junction is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Wandsworth and London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Do you cover homes near Clapham Junction station?

Yes, homes across Wandsworth and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit.

Will the storage fit up my loft stairs?

Measuring the route is part of the design visit. Each section is made to fit the narrowest point, and then assembled in the loft.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work.

What if the wall is cold or damp?

It can be done with some care: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. We don’t treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.

Do you move sockets or add lighting?

No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician. We’ll design around them.

Before and after fitting day

Because fitted furniture stays put, a little upkeep goes a long way. Here are a few tips worth knowing:

  • Mention any parking rules on your street
  • Bring paint colours you like to the design visit
  • Count the clothes you’ll need to hang
  • Find out what’s behind the eaves, from insulation to vents

A hand-painted finish is easy to touch up if it gets marked. Keep a note of the colour for later. If anything isn’t right with the storage, drop us a line using the contact form and we will talk it through.

Loft rooms can be warm in summer and cool in winter. Keep the room ventilated. It helps the storage stay in good condition.

Do you need loft storage in Clapham Junction?

Boxes, suitcases and seasonal things need a home. Cupboards behind the knee wall hide them away. It keeps the room tidy.

Common reasons to get in touch include:

  • A boarded loft with no proper shelving
  • Furniture that can’t get up to the loft
  • A loft room with too many jobs
  • Low eaves that nobody can use

If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Church of St Mark, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

What to check before you book

  • Whether they measure the room themselves
  • Whether you will get a quote in writing, not just a figure
  • Where they’ll park and unload
  • Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done

Making use of tricky spaces in Clapham Junction

The biggest shares of homes in the area around Clapham Junction were built before 1919 (about 48%) and since 2000 (about 20%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Part of Clapham Junction is in the Clapham Junction Conservation Area, according to Historic England’s records. Conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. Controlled parking zones cover much of inner London, and each borough runs its own. For fitting in Clapham Junction, a van usually needs a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Parking is worth mentioning at the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.

Close to Imperial Park? Eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things. The wider area includes historic houses like Carlyle's House, about 1.4 miles north. If your own home is a period one, a dormer in a converted loft can hold shelves or a small desk.
