- A boarded loft with no proper shelving
Need loft storage in Battersea?
Flat-pack or bespoke?
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
Loft storage in Battersea
Loft rooms are often bedrooms, so storage for clothes matters. Wardrobes under the slope, drawers in the knee wall and shelves in the dormer can all work together. Designed as one, they give the room calm, consistent lines. We design them around what you need to store in Battersea. Most enquiries start with seasonal things cluttering the loft room and wasted space behind the knee walls, and the answer is made at our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
A solid brick outside wall in an older house can be cold and sometimes damp, so storage against it is designed with ventilation behind. That matters around Battersea, where a large share of the homes are that old. Any damp is dealt with before storage goes in.
After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish.

The problems loft storage solve
The most common reason is wasted space. The low spaces at the edge of a loft room are hard to use. Built-in storage makes that space useful.
Here are some of the needs we are asked about most:
- Nowhere to store bags and boxes
- A loft room with too many jobs
- Clothes with nowhere to go in a loft bedroom
- Ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs
Close to Imperial Park? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and eaves cupboards can give those things a place.
What to check before you book
- Can you see real work of theirs?
- Whether the route into your home has been checked
- Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
- Will the quote be in writing?
Fitting day, step by step
You will not need to do much on the day. Someone needs to let us in, and the room should already be cleared, as we will have talked about at the measuring visit. After that, it is over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and your quote sets out the fitting days. If your hall still has its original tiles or boards, they’re covered before any carrying starts. Fixings into older walls are made carefully, as lath and plaster can crack if treated roughly. Any decorating around the new pieces is for your decorator.
- It starts when you contact us about storage in your loft.
- We visit to measure and look at what’s behind the knee walls, and discuss the design with you.
- Your quote sets out the design, the materials and the finish. You can ask us about any of it.
- Your storage is made at our workshop, shaped to the loft.
- We fit it in your home and leave it ready to use, with the doors and drawers checked with you.
Before fitting day
- Tell us about parking near your home
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture

Advice
Where other trades come in
Some parts of a job need another trade, such as an electrician, a plumber or a Gas Safe engineer. Here’s what to know:
- Altering the structure of the loft
- New sockets, lights or wiring, which are for your electrician
- Loft conversions, which we do not carry out
If in doubt, you can drop us a line using the contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

How it is made
Hand-painted finish
Some people prefer a hand-painted finish for its softer look. It can be applied on site, in a colour agreed with you. It can match the skirting and doors.
Doors and drawer fronts
An access door into the eaves can match the rest of the fronts. It opens wide, so you can still get into the eaves. Around it, the fronts can be drawers, doors or a mix.
Battersea homes and loft storage
Homes built before 1919 make up about 48% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Battersea, with about 20% built since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. The National Heritage List has 21 entries within half a mile of the centre of Battersea. Original fireplaces, shutters and panelling are worth keeping where they survive, and eaves cupboards can be designed to work around them. On TfL’s red routes, the rules on stopping and loading are strict. If your home is on or just off a main road, it helps to mention it. We can then plan where the van will stop.
The wider area includes historic houses such as Carlyle's House, about 1.4 miles north. If your own home is a period one, the knee walls of a converted loft can take drawers as well as cupboards. Near listed buildings like Church of St Mark, less than half a mile south-west of the centre of Battersea, older homes may keep original joinery that eaves cupboards can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.
Battersea is about 1 mile north-west of Clapham Junction, in the London Borough of Wandsworth. Design visits and fitting in Battersea can be on a Saturday, by prior arrangement. In Wandsworth, Battersea is one of the places we cover, and the borough has 15 places on our list.
Design visits and fitting in SW11, SW18 and SW4 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. Streets in the area include York Road, Este Road and Home Road, and we cover homes on all of them for loft storage. The A3207 runs close to Battersea; on busy main roads, unloading eaves cupboards takes a little planning. We also cover the places around Battersea: Clapham Junction (1 mile north-west), Sands End (1 mile north-west), Chelsea Harbour (1 mile north-west), Wandsworth (1 mile south-west) and Clapham (1 mile east). Elsewhere in Wandsworth, we also cover Putney (2 miles west), Tooting (2 miles south), Tooting Bec (2 miles south), Balham (2 miles south-east), Southfields (2 miles south-west) and Furzedown (3 miles south). Being one of the larger places in Wandsworth, Battersea is covered for loft storage and everything else we make.

Your questions about loft storage in Battersea
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Battersea?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It’s useful to let us know about parking at the measuring visit.
Do you cover Battersea?
Yes. Our area is the whole of London: every borough and the City of London, and that includes Battersea.
Where is the furniture made?
Everything is built in our workshop for your room, then brought to your home and fitted. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
Do you carry out loft conversions?
No, the conversion itself isn’t our work. We design and fit storage once the room is in place, from eaves cupboards to wardrobes under the slopes.
How is the furniture painted?
You can choose between two finishes: by spray or by hand. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.
