About loft storage in Wandsworth

The low space behind a knee wall is often the most useful in the room. Eaves cupboards and pull-out drawers built into the knee wall put it to work. Pull-out drawers mean you don’t have to crawl in. At the design visit in Wandsworth, we will see what fits. Typical reasons to get in touch are a sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe and low eaves that nobody can use, and the answer is made in our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

You’re welcome to ask questions while we work. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so the day itself is about careful fitting. How long the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote.

  1. You get in touch with some details about the loft room, whether it is a converted room or a boarded space.
  2. We visit to measure and look at what’s behind the knee walls.
  3. A quote in writing follows, with the fitting days agreed. You can ask us about any of it.
  4. Your storage is made at our workshop, shaped to the loft.
  5. The storage is fitted and set level, ready to fill, with the doors and drawers checked with you.

How our quotes work

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. We’ll talk through what you need inside during the design visit, and the quote follows.

Loft storage across Wandsworth: local notes

Older homes in Wandsworth often hide useful space behind awkward shapes. A stair void, a bay or an eaves slope can all take eaves cupboards built to their exact angles. Each piece is fitted to the room as it is.

The biggest shares of homes in Wandsworth were built before 1919 (about 44%) and since 2000 (about 21%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how eaves cupboards are fixed and fitted. More than a third of the homes in Wandsworth (about 44%) were built before 1919, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Loft conversions are common in London terraces, and they leave low eaves and sloping ceilings that storage can use. Purpose-built flats are home to about 48% of households in Wandsworth, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. For a flat, eaves cupboards are made in sections sized for the stairs, the lift and the doors. Many blocks have rules on lift booking and working hours, so check with the managing agent before fitting day.

We cover the whole of London, so homes in Wandsworth are well within our area. Tell us about access and parking when you first get in touch.

Clapham Junction: If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Church of St Mark, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent. Living in a block of flats near Clapham Junction station? Then it’s useful to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day.

Do you need loft storage?

Loft rooms that double as offices or guest rooms need places for things. Storage in the eaves leaves the main floor clear.

If any of these sound familiar, it is worth getting in touch:

  • A converted loft with no fitted furniture
  • Wasted space behind the knee walls
  • A loft room that doubles as an office or guest room
  • A boarded loft with no proper shelving

Caring for painted furniture

Most of what helps is simple. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Clear the knee-wall spaces before the design visit if you can
  • Note the things that need a home in the loft
  • Choose a calm colour for the loft
  • Note any vents or insulation in the eaves

Heavy items are best kept in the lower parts of the storage. It helps the runners and keeps the storage working well. Shelves are made for what you told us you’d store.

Avoid overloading drawers so they keep running smoothly. It’s useful to clear out now and then. Keep the heaviest things near the floor.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let. It is made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, with a spray or hand-painted finish.

For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. An agent can arrange access for you, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.

How we price loft storage

What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. The main factors are:

  • The number of doors and drawers
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • Parking near your home

Awkward rooms take more time: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. That is reflected in the quote, written once we have measured up.

Getting in touch

You don’t need exact measurements or a plan. Just send what you can:

  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Rough measurements: width, height and depth
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • Examples of the look you are after

Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space. To send them over, message us from the contact page, and we will arrange a design visit.

Common questions about loft storage

Where is the furniture made?

Everything is built in our workshop for your room, then fitted in your home. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.

How much does loft storage cost?

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. The mix of cupboards, drawers and wardrobes, and the finish, all play a part. Everything is set out in a quote in writing after the visit.

Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?

It’s something we deal with all the time. We trim the edges to follow the wall and level the base, so there are no gaps at the sides.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch.

How do you get large pieces into a loft?

We make the storage in sections sized for the route. At the design visit, we measure the loft stairs, the turns and the landings. It means a full wardrobe can still reach the room.

What happens at the measuring visit?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.

Do you move sockets or add lighting?

No. Electrical work isn’t something we do; it’s a job for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design.
