Bedroom storage in Raynes Park
The biggest shares of homes in the area around Raynes Park were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 48%) and before 1919 (about 25%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Within a mile of the centre of Raynes Park, 6 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. The ULEZ, run by TfL, takes in all of London, so Merton is inside it. Vans bringing furniture to Raynes Park fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. We plan parking and access with you at the design visit.
Southside House, about 0.9 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design. If you live near Cannon Hill Common, keeping fitted wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright.

Fitted wardrobes in Raynes Park
Fitted wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The doors are finished with spray paint in the workshop or painted by hand, in the colour you choose. Then we fit them in your home, levelling them on a plinth or adjustable feet and scribing them to the walls and ceiling. Typical reasons to get in touch are clothes with nowhere proper to go and not enough hanging space; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
The front bedroom in many 1920s and 1930s houses sits above a bay, so fitted storage normally goes on the walls either side while the bay stays open. Interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a big part of the housing around Raynes Park, so it’s a room shape worth planning for. We measure every wall, even where the room looks square.
The quote comes in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and share it with anyone else involved. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Flats, blocks and rented homes
A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, after measuring the route at the measuring visit.
We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let. It is made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, with a spray or hand-painted finish.
Why bespoke in Raynes Park?
Modular interior systems can be rearranged easily, and that flexibility is useful. A bespoke interior is planned around your clothes from the start, and adjustable shelves keep some flexibility. Even in a 1930s house, walls and floors aren’t perfectly true, so standalone furniture can still lean or leave gaps. Fitted furniture is scribed and levelled on site.
Parking is part of the price picture in London. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. It helps to talk about parking at the measuring visit.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
It’s worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is normally cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. That is something we plan for in the design.
From workshop to your room
Every fitting follows the same order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so it’s worth mentioning at the design visit. Otherwise, a visitor permit or a nearby bay helps. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.
- You get in touch and tell us what you keep in your wardrobes now.
- At the design visit we measure the room and plan the inside: long hanging, double hanging, shelves and drawers.
- A quote in writing follows, listing the layout inside, the doors and the finish.
- Everything is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, which holds screws well for rails and runners.
- We fit the wardrobes in your home, then put in the rails, shelves and drawers at the heights we agreed.
Before we arrive
- Empty the space we’ll be working in
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
Starting with a design visit
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you don’t, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, message us from the contact page.
Related advice
Do you need fitted wardrobes in Raynes Park?
Couples often want storage that works for two. We can plan separate sections for each person.
Typical reasons people contact us include:
- Wardrobes that are full to bursting
- Clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms
- Wasted space beside the chimney breast
- Damp or musty clothes against an external wall
For a family home near West Wimbledon Primary School, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller.

- Can you see real work of theirs?
- How they’ll get the furniture into the room
- Is it spray painted or hand painted?

Questions we are often asked
I live near Raynes Park station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Merton and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with a few details about the room.
Do you make fitted wardrobes for homes in Raynes Park?
Yes. We cover all of Merton and the rest of London, and Raynes Park is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, followed by a quote.
Can fitted wardrobes follow a sloping ceiling?
Yes. Sloping ceilings are common in loft conversions and fitted storage suits them well. The slope is measured at the design visit and the wardrobe scribed to it on site.
Do I need permission in a conservation area?
Not normally. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.
Do pictures help?
Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. You can send them when you message us from the contact page.
What can go inside a fitted wardrobe?
It is worked out with you when we measure, based on what you wear and how much of it there is. Some shelves can be adjustable so the layout can change.
