Loft storage in Peaks Hill

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Off-the-shelf wardrobes often don’t fit up narrow loft stairs. Our storage is made in sections sized for the route. That makes it possible to fit large pieces in a small loft. Ready-made furniture rarely suits a bay, a box room or a bulkhead over the stairs, and interwar homes often have all three. Built-in pieces are designed to fit them.

Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You’ll see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

What you get with us

  • Built from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood

Loft storage in Peaks Hill

Loft rooms are often bedrooms, so storage for clothes matters. Wardrobes under the slope, drawers in the knee wall and shelves in the dormer can all work together. Planned together, they make the room feel ordered. For a home in Peaks Hill, it is planned around your things. If you are living with boxes and suitcases with no home and no wardrobe that fits under the slope, eaves cupboards made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish can solve it.

A good part of the housing around Peaks Hill is interwar, semi-detached or detached. In a typical 1930s house, storage tends to hide in the bay, under the stairs and in the box room. Any meters or fuse boards that need to stay reachable are designed around.

Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

What loft storage cannot fix

It is useful to know what’s outside our work before you plan:

  • Approval for structural changes
  • Any wiring, which needs an electrician
  • Building work to turn a loft into a room

Not sure whether your space suits loft storage? You can message us from the contact page and we’ll tell you before you arrange a visit. How it works.

Boards, parts and paint

Moisture-resistant MDF

MDF cuts cleanly, which suits the angled panels under a sloping ceiling. We use a moisture-resistant grade, which is stable and takes paint well. It makes up most of the visible parts.

Spray-painted finish

Spraying gives a smooth, even surface. It is done in our workshop before fitting. The colour is agreed with you.

When is bespoke worth it?

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

How fitting works for loft storage

At the end, we tidy up and lift the floor protection. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Interwar houses normally have a straight run of stairs and a reasonable hallway, but the route in is still measured, not just the room. Eaves cupboards arrive in sections and are assembled in place, with floors protected throughout.

  1. To begin, tell us about the room on our contact form; a brief note on the loft and the storage you want is enough.
  2. We visit to measure the slopes and eaves and talk through cupboards, drawers and wardrobes under them.
  3. A written quote follows, with the design, materials and finish.
  4. The storage is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, cut to the angles we measured.
  5. On fitting day the units are set level and scribed to the slope and the knee wall.

Before fitting day

  • Tell us about parking near your home
  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall

Advice

Making use of awkward spaces in Peaks Hill

In the streets around Peaks Hill, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 44%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 21%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. The Webb Estate Conservation Area is close by, within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Peaks Hill. Conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. The council can confirm if you are not sure. London’s red routes are run by TfL, and stopping on them is tightly controlled. If your home is on or just off a main road, it is useful to mention it. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.

For an older house near Church of St Mark, a dormer in a converted loft can hold shelves or a small desk. If you live in a flat close to Purley station, eaves cupboards are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. If your children go to Coloma Convent Girls' School or a school nearby, deep drawers suit the bulky things families collect, from scooters to swimming kit.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Purley station?

Yes, homes across Croydon and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Is Peaks Hill in the area you cover for loft storage?

Yes. Peaks Hill is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Croydon and London. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with a few details.

Do photos help?

Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough measurements. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.

Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?

That’s normal in older homes, and it is what scribing is for. We scribe the edges to follow the wall and set the furniture level on adjustable feet or a plinth.

Which materials go into your loft storage?

Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish. Stable materials suit a loft, where temperatures can vary. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.

Do you carry out loft conversions?

No, the conversion itself is not our work. Our part is the storage once the loft is a finished room, from eaves cupboards to wardrobes under the slopes.
