Walk-in wardrobes in Sudbury Hill

How we make walk-in wardrobes for Sudbury Hill

We fit walk-in wardrobes in Sudbury Hill and across London. We begin with a design visit, measuring the room and talking through the design, followed by a quote. Everything is made at our workshop and fitted in your home. How long fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. If your home has moving wardrobes out of the bedroom and room for a growing wardrobe, walk-in wardrobes made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish can solve it.

The front bedroom in many 1920s and 1930s houses sits above a bay, so fitted storage normally goes on the walls either side while the bay stays open. Interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a big part of the housing around Sudbury Hill, so that shape of room is worth knowing. We measure every wall, even where the room looks square.

The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the walk-in wardrobe we have designed for the room, what it’s made from and how it’s finished.

Caring for painted furniture

Fitted furniture is part of the room, so it’s worth looking after. Here are a few tips worth knowing:

  • Consider a mix of doors and open shelves
  • Plan lighting with your electrician
  • Know what you will keep before planning
  • Think about long versus double hanging

Keep heavy items low and lighter ones high, and do not overload a single rail. That keeps the hanging and shelves in good shape.

Before the design visit, sort through your clothes. We plan the layout around your clothes, so a clear-out first gives a better design.

Questions we’re often asked

Is parking a problem for fitting in Sudbury Hill?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to tell us about parking at the measuring visit.

I live near Sudbury & Harrow Road station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Brent and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with a few details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

How do you get the furniture up the stairs?

We plan the route in at the design visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and each section is made to a size that will get through.

Is a box room big enough for a walk-in wardrobe?

Often, yes. It depends on the room’s shape and where the door and window sit. We plan it at the measuring visit.

What finishes do you offer?

There are two ways to finish it: by spray or by hand. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.

Can you put a walk-in wardrobe in part of a bedroom?

Yes. We design the units to make a dressing area within the bedroom, while any new walls are for your builder.

What happens on fitting day

At the end, we tidy up and lift the floor protection. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together and explain how to look after the paint. The time the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. To begin, message us from the contact page; a brief note on the room and what it needs to store is plenty.
  2. We visit to measure up and work out the layout inside, including any dressing table.
  3. You receive a quote in writing for the walk-in wardrobe.
  4. The units are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the units in your home, then put in the rails, shelves and drawers at the heights we agreed.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Keep pets in another room while we work
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall

How to get a quote

The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a written quote. To book one, drop us a line using the contact form.

Related advice

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Off-the-shelf wardrobe systems are quicker to get and usually cost less, and in a square room they can work. Where walls lean and floors slope, they rarely fit neatly. Ours is built to the room’s real shape. Ready-made units come in standard depths that rarely suit every space, so they can stick out too far or waste space behind. Fitted furniture is made to the depth the space can take.

The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways as well as the room, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.

A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, after measuring the route at the measuring visit.
