Bespoke kitchens in Sudbury Hill: what you get

You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and we design the cabinets around them. We plan each space around the appliances you have chosen, from the oven housing to the dishwasher. Your quote sets out the materials and finish. Most enquiries start with more storage in a small kitchen and a dresser that suits a period house, and the answer is made in our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

With interwar houses or semis a big part of the picture around Sudbury Hill, many kitchens have a garden door and a window that shape the layout. Cabinets, a larder and a dresser can be made to suit the layout. Your chosen worktop, sink and appliances are fitted into the design, with plumbing and electrics left to your plumber and electrician.

The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the kitchen designed for your room, what it’s made from and how it’s finished.

Moisture-resistant MDF

A painted MDF door looks crisp and even, and the moisture-resistant grade suits a kitchen.

Plinths and scribe strips

A plinth hides adjustable feet and lets the cabinets sit level. Scribe strips follow the wall.

Made-to-measure kitchens or ready-made?

Off-the-shelf kitchens are quicker to buy and typically cost less and they suit many newer homes. In an older house with uneven walls, they tend to need filler panels and leave gaps. A bespoke kitchen costs more but is made for the room. Off-the-shelf units come in set widths, so a run along a wall usually ends with a gap, which fitted furniture avoids. It can use the full height too.

The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.

How fitting works for bespoke kitchens

Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, which keeps the lines straight. After that, it’s fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that’s solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about the room and how you cook.
  2. We visit to measure the room and go through the layout, the storage and where the appliances will sit.
  3. You receive a written quote for the kitchen cabinets. Plumbing, gas and electrics are not part of it: those are for your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician.
  4. We build the cabinets, doors and drawer fronts in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the cabinets in your home, working around your plumber, your electrician and an engineer on the Gas Safe Register.

How to prepare

  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Clear the area where the furniture is going

Advice

Made-to-measure kitchens in Sudbury Hill

In the neighbourhood around Sudbury Hill, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 53%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 12%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Sudbury Hill is partly covered by a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are largely about how buildings look from outside. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. More than half of the homes in the area around Sudbury Hill (about 53%) date from between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Many houses of that era have had the kitchen extended or knocked through, so the cabinets are made for today’s layout.

Near listed buildings like Sudbury Town Underground Station, under half a mile south-east of the centre of Sudbury Hill, older homes may keep original joinery that kitchens can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent. The wider area includes historic houses such as Northolt Manor, about 2.2 miles west. If your own home is a period one, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true.

What prompts bespoke kitchens in Sudbury Hill

In many older homes, ready-made units struggle with lean and slope. Cabinets end up with gaps or tilted lines, and a bespoke kitchen is scribed and levelled to avoid that.

A few of the things people ask us to solve include:

  • Cabinets that suit lean and sloping walls
  • Open shelves with cupboards below
  • A kitchen planned around your appliances
  • Tall larder storage

Living in a block of flats near Sudbury & Harrow Road station? Then each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room.

Before you choose who makes it

  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
  • Whether the finish is set out in the quote
  • Real projects you can actually look at
  • Whether the quote follows a visit to your home

Your questions about bespoke kitchens in Sudbury Hill

Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in Sudbury Hill?

Yes, we work across Brent, Sudbury Hill included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with some details.

Does a conservation area in or near Sudbury Hill affect fitted furniture?

Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can require listed building consent from the council. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.

How much time does fitting need?

It depends on the kitchen. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.

Can you fit cabinets to walls that are not straight?

Yes, that’s part of the job. Few walls in a period house are straight, so we scribe and level every cabinet.

Do I choose the paint colour?

You do. The paint colour is agreed with you before anything is painted.

Do you supply the worktop and appliances?

You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and the cabinets are made to suit them. Your quote sets out what’s included.
