Need loft storage in Upper Clapton?
From workshop to your room
Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. It helps to clear the room and the route in before fitting day, including pictures on nearby walls. We cover floors and doorways first. Then the sections come in and are joined in place.
- You let us know about your converted or boarded loft.
- At the design visit, the room and the route up are measured, as everything has to get up there.
- We agree the cupboards, drawers and wardrobes, and send a quote in writing.
- Every part is made at our workshop, ready for a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
- The storage is fitted, scribed to the slopes and checked with you.
Before we arrive
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
- Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to

Loft storage in Upper Clapton: what you get
Behind the short walls at the edge of a loft room, there’s often space going to waste. Eaves cupboards and pull-out drawers built into the knee wall put it to work. Drawers bring the back of the space within reach. At the design visit in Upper Clapton, we’ll see what fits. If you’re living with a loft room that still feels unfinished and wasted space behind the knee walls, eaves cupboards made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.
Homes in an area like Upper Clapton can come from many different periods, so the tricky spaces vary too: a bay, the space under the stairs, a hallway recess or the eaves of a converted loft. Eaves cupboards are designed for the space you have. Any meters, fuse boards or boilers stay accessible.
After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

Questions we are often asked
Does a conservation area in or near Upper Clapton affect fitted furniture?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can require listed building consent from the council. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.
I live in a flat in Upper Clapton. How will the furniture get up the stairs?
We measure the route in along with the room itself: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Eaves cupboards are built in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It is useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?
That is normal in older homes, and it’s what scribing is for. We scribe the edges to follow the wall and set the furniture level on adjustable feet or a plinth.
How long is the fitting for eaves storage?
The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. The storage is built in our workshop first, so the time in your home is spent fitting. We keep the route up to the loft as clear as possible.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, by arrangement. Tell us when you contact us if a Saturday suits you best.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. You do not need to watch us work, but it’s useful to be around at the end.
Why people ask for loft storage in Upper Clapton
The most common reason is wasted space. Behind the knee walls, there is space nobody can reach. Cupboards and drawers built into the knee wall put it to work.
Requests we hear often include:
- Nowhere to store bags and boxes
- A loft room that doubles as an office or guest room
- Clothes with nowhere to go in a loft bedroom
- A boarded loft with no proper shelving
For an older house near Church of St Thomas the Apostle, the low eaves and slopes of a converted loft are worth using.
What to check before you book
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
- Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
- Will the quote be in writing?
- Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
Flats, leases and landlords
If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there is a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Tell us about it when you get in touch.

What affects the cost of loft storage
There is no set price, because there’s no set room. What affects it comes down to:
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- Doors and drawers, and how many
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- How big the furniture is
Awkward rooms take more time: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. The quote allows for it, written once we’ve measured up.
Before the design visit
When you contact us, these help most:
- Where you live, with the postcode
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
- Examples of the look you’re after
- Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and talk through the design with you, and the written quote comes after. Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. To book a design visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.
Before and after fitting day
None of this takes much effort. Here’s what we suggest:
- Think about what will go in each cupboard or drawer
- Plan where the tall end of a wardrobe can go
- Bring paint colours you like to the design visit
- Make room so the whole loft can be measured
We open each door and run each drawer with you before we go. Any access to the eaves is checked so it still opens. That way, everything works as planned.
Loft rooms can be warm in summer and cool in winter. Keep the room ventilated. That keeps the storage and the paint in good order.
