Loft storage for your home in London Fields
How we make loft storage for London Fields
Many loft rooms are bedrooms, and storage for clothes is the first need. A wardrobe under the slope, knee-wall drawers and dormer shelves make a complete set. Planned together, they make the room feel ordered. We design them around what you need to store in London Fields. Typical reasons to get in touch are a boarded loft with no proper shelving and a loft room that doubles as an office or guest room, and the answer is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
One flat can have concrete, block and plasterboard walls side by side. With purpose-built flats home to most households around London Fields, we check each wall during the design visit before choosing fixings. Storage on a lightweight wall stands on the floor and is fixed back for stability.
A quote in writing follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish.

Storage in London Fields homes: local notes
Homes built before 1919 make up about 34% of the housing in the neighbourhood around London Fields, with about 23% built between 1945 and 1972, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. There are 82 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of London Fields. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and eaves cupboards can be designed to work around them. Red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping and loading. Where a home in London Fields is on or beside a main road, it’s useful to mention that at the design visit. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.
If your children go to Gayhurst Community School or a school nearby, deep drawers suit the bulky things families collect, from scooters to swimming kit. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as The New Lansdowne Club, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent. Living in a block of flats near London Fields station? Then check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.

Postcode districts we cover here for loft storage: E8, E2 and E9. Our area takes in homes on streets like Tudor Road, Forest Road and Duncan Road, along with the roads around them, for loft storage and any of our other fitted furniture. London Fields sits close to the A1207, and we plan where the van can stop before fitting day. If you’re just outside London Fields, we also cover Hackney Central (1 mile north), Cambridge Heath (1 mile south-east), Dalston (1 mile north-west), Hackney (1 mile north-east) and Kingsland (1 mile north-west). Elsewhere in Hackney, we also cover Stoke Newington (2 miles north-west), Stamford Hill (2 miles north), Upper Clapton (2 miles north), Manor House (3 miles north-west), Lea Bridge (2 miles north-east) and Hackney Marshes (2 miles north-east).

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths.
If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.
What happens on fitting day
You will not need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and the room should already be cleared, as agreed at the design visit. After that, it’s over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. The time the fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Sections come into the flat in the order they’re fitted, so the flat doesn’t fill up. Floors are covered and dust is kept down. Fixings are chosen for each wall, solid or plasterboard.
- It starts when you get in touch with some details about the loft, and how you get up to it.
- We come to measure the room and the way up to it, and discuss the design.
- We send a written quote setting out the design, materials and finish.
- Your storage is built in our workshop and painted to your chosen colour.
- We fit it in your home, scribed to the slopes and the walls.
Preparing the room
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Keep pets in another room while we work

Bespoke loft storage or ready-made?
Ready-made furniture has to come up the loft stairs in one piece or flat-packed. Our storage is made in sections sized for the route. That makes it possible to fit large pieces in a small loft. Flats tend to have walls interrupted by doors, radiators and sockets, and standard widths rarely fit between them. Built-in pieces are sized for each stretch of wall.
Rooms that aren’t square take more work: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. That’s reflected in the quote.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders
In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Let us know about it when you contact us.
We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
Caring for painted furniture
Because fitted furniture stays put, a little upkeep goes a long way. Here are a few tips worth knowing:
- Note the things that need a home in the loft
- Mention any parking rules on your street
- Make room so the whole loft can be measured
- Check the route up to the loft
Wiping the fronts with a soft, damp cloth is normally all they need. Dry them afterwards, and avoid abrasive pads and strong solvents. Handles and drawer edges pick up marks first.
Avoid overloading drawers so they keep running smoothly. A quick sort every so often helps. Keep the heaviest things near the floor.
Your questions about loft storage in London Fields
My home in London Fields is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?
We measure the route in not just the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Eaves cupboards are built in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.
Do you cover homes near London Fields station?
Yes, homes across Hackney and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, by prior arrangement. Tell us when you contact us if a Saturday suits you best.
What materials do you use for loft storage?
We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The carcasses and drawer boxes are birch plywood, which is strong and holds screws well, while the doors and panels are MDF, which paints well. Everything is finished by spray painting or hand painting.
Do I need permission in a conservation area?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, and furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need it. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
We need someone to let us in. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
