Loft Storage in Redbridge
Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. Our work on loft storage in Redbridge starts with a design visit, and everything is made at our workshop.
- Space under the eaves going to waste
- A loft room with too many jobs
- A boarded loft with no proper shelving

What happens on fitting day
Finishing comes last. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturdays can be arranged.
- You get in touch and let us know about your converted or boarded loft.
- We come to measure the room and the way up to it, and talk through the design, including the headroom under the slope.
- You receive a quote in writing for the storage we’ve discussed, for you to look over.
- Your storage is made at our workshop and painted to your chosen colour. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit it in your home, scribed to the slopes and the walls.
How to prepare
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
- Empty the space we will be working in

How we make loft storage for Redbridge
We build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded. The conversion itself isn’t our work, and conversions come under Building Regulations. With the room in place, we can plan the storage. In Redbridge, it all begins with a design visit. Most enquiries start with boxes and suitcases with no home and an empty dormer that could hold shelves, and the answer is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
In an area where interwar homes or semis make up much of the housing, as around Redbridge, loft conversions are common, and they leave low eaves and sloping ceilings. Those spaces, along with bays and hallways, are where fitted storage can add the most. We build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded.
A quote in writing follows the design visit. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish.

Caring for painted furniture
Looking after painted furniture is simple with a little care. A few things help it stay looking good:
- Bring paint colours you like to the design visit
- Think about hanging space for a loft bedroom
- Decide whether you’d prefer drawers, cupboards or both
- Make a list of what you want to store in the eaves
Do not pack things so tightly that air can’t move behind the knee wall. Leave the gaps we have designed in. It helps keep the loft in good order.
Sharp edges and heavy boxes can chip a painted edge. Put tools in a case so they do not knock the paint. A small chip on a hand-painted finish is easy to touch in.
DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there is typically a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.
Honest limits
Some parts of a job need another trade, from an electrician to a plumber or a Gas Safe engineer. Here is what to bear in mind:
- Building work to turn a loft into a room
- Insulation or ventilation work behind the eaves
- Any wiring, which needs an electrician
If in doubt, you can message us from the contact page and describe the room. How it works.
What goes into it
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Hand-painted finish
- Eaves doors and drawers
- Birch plywood
- Spray-painted finish
- Sloped wardrobe tops

Your questions about loft storage in Redbridge
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Redbridge?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit.
Do you cover homes near Ilford station?
Yes. We cover the whole of London. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Do you do the loft conversion too?
No, we build storage in lofts that are already converted or boarded. Loft conversions are building work, with Building Regulations to follow. When the room is finished, we can plan the storage.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, by prior arrangement. Tell us when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.
Is it possible to fit a wardrobe under the slope?
Yes. A wardrobe made for the slope fits where a standard one cannot. The tall end takes hanging space, and the low end can hold shelves or drawers. It is cut to fit the ceiling and walls exactly.
Do you do the electrics?
No. We are carpenters, so electrical work is for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.
Why people ask for loft storage in Redbridge
Many people get in touch once their loft conversion is complete. Standard furniture rarely suits the new room. Fitted storage finishes the room.
Some of the things we are asked to solve are these:
- No wardrobe that fits under the slope
- An empty dormer that could hold shelves
- Boxes and suitcases with no home
- A converted loft with no fitted furniture
