Walk-in Wardrobes in Hanwell

In Hanwell, we design walk-in wardrobes around the room you actually have. We design your walk-in wardrobe at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.

  • A calmer, clearer bedroom
  • A dressing table with drawers and a mirror
  • Shelves for shoes and bags

What walk-in wardrobes cannot fix

It is worth being clear about where our work stops:

  • Electrical work in the room
  • Painting the walls of the room
  • Structural changes or removing walls

If in doubt, you can send us a few details through our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

Walk-in wardrobes in Hanwell

A walk-in wardrobe can also be part of a bedroom. Where a bedroom is large enough, a section can be set aside with a partition or a run of units, with doors or left open. Building a new stud partition is building work, so that’s for your builder, and we fit the furniture inside. If you are living with a side each for a couple and storage for clothes that have outgrown the wardrobe, walk-in wardrobes made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand can solve it.

Older bedrooms usually have generous ceiling heights, and a large share of the homes around Hanwell date from then. Fitted furniture can run right up to the ceiling or the cornice, with high storage for the things you use least. Original mouldings are worked around rather than removed, so the furniture suits the house.

The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the walk-in wardrobe designed for your room, its materials and its finish, and it’s what the workshop builds to.

Bedroom storage in Hanwell

Homes built before 1919 make up about 53% of the housing in the area around Hanwell, with about 21% built since 2000, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. There are 11 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Hanwell. Being near listed buildings doesn’t make a home listed, and you can check any address on Historic England’s list. TfL’s Ultra Low Emission Zone covers every part of London, Ealing included. It applies to every van that comes to fit furniture in Hanwell. Access and parking are talked through at the measuring visit.

Near listed buildings like Church of St Mary, about 0.5 miles north-west of the centre of Hanwell, older homes may keep original joinery that walk-in wardrobes can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent. Pitzhanger Manor, about 1.3 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go. Close to Drayton Green? Walk-in wardrobes are normally planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay.

Hanwell is about 1 mile east of Ealing, within the London Borough of Ealing. Homes in Hanwell are part of the area we cover for walk-in wardrobes, as part of our work in every London borough. In Ealing, Hanwell is one of the places we cover, and the borough has 19 places on our list.

Every home in W7, W13 and UB2 is covered for walk-in wardrobes. Streets in the area include Park Road, Green Lane and Felix Road, and we cover homes on all of them for walk-in wardrobes. Hanwell sits close to the A4001. We also cover West Ealing (1 mile west), Ealing (1 mile east), Dormers Wells (1 mile north-west), South Ealing (1 mile south-east) and Pitshanger (2 miles north-east). Elsewhere in Ealing, we also cover Acton (3 miles east), Greenford (2 miles north), Northolt (3 miles north-west), Acton Green (3 miles east), Bedford Park (3 miles east) and Acton Vale (4 miles east).

Looking after your furniture

People planning walk-in wardrobes often ask about these. They help before and after fitting:

  • Plan lighting with your electrician
  • Deal with any damp walls first
  • Know what you will keep before planning
  • Give the paint time to cure fully

Adjustable shelves can be moved as your clothes change to suit what you store. A seasonal tidy keeps it working well.

Before the design visit, sort through your clothes. We plan the layout around your clothes, so a clear-out first gives a better design.

From workshop to your room

There is not much for you to do on fitting day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and it’s useful to have the room cleared beforehand, as agreed at the measuring visit. After that, it’s over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Hallways in period houses are often narrow, and the stairs turn sharply, so the furniture comes in sections sized for the route in. Floors and stair carpets are protected on the way in and out.

  1. You let us know about the room and what you want to store, from long coats to shoes.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and plan the hanging, shelves and drawers, including any dressing table.
  3. A quote follows, setting out the design and finish, ready for you to check.
  4. We build everything in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the walk-in wardrobe in your home, scribed to the walls and set level. We then check the doors and drawers with you.

How to prepare

  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room

Materials and finishes

Hand-painted finish

Hand painting in the room lets the units match the doors and skirting.

Spray-painted finish

You choose the colour, and we apply it in the workshop.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that are not square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths.

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.

Questions from Hanwell

Do you make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Hanwell?

Yes. We cover all of Ealing and the rest of London, and Hanwell is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, followed by a quote.

I live near Hanwell station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Ealing and the rest of London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You choose it. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you have chosen.

What if the wall is cold or damp?

It can be done with some care: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. We do not treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.

What does a walk-in wardrobe cost?

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Each walk-in wardrobe is different, so we quote once we have measured. To get started, get in touch through our contact form.

Do I need permission to fit furniture in a leasehold flat?

Possibly. A lease can require consent for alterations. We cannot advise on leases, so please check yours.
