TV and media units in Angel, Islington
Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. Our work on TV and media units in Angel starts with a design visit, and everything is built in our workshop.
- Clutter around the TV
- A cabinet that traps heat
- Leads that show from every angle

What happens on fitting day
Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it is going into, and that happens on fitting day. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, until the line is tight. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Some buildings have a concierge, a lift booking system or set working hours, so it is worth checking with the managing agent beforehand. Communal areas and floors are protected on the way in.
- You tell us about the room and what the unit needs to hold, from set-top boxes to speakers.
- A design visit follows, where we measure and agree the layout, with ventilation for boxes and amplifiers.
- A written quote follows.
- Once you are happy, the unit is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with cable routes planned in.
- The unit is fitted in your home, ready for your equipment.
Before we arrive
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
How to get a quote
It helps to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space, along with rough measurements. To send them over, message us from the contact page, and we will arrange a design visit.

Speakers need their own thought. A soundbar can sit on a shelf below the screen, and larger speakers can go on open shelves either side. Closing speakers in a cupboard muffles them. If your home has equipment with nowhere proper to go and nowhere good for speakers, that’s what TV and media units are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
With most households around Angel in purpose-built flats, getting the furniture into the building matters as much as the design. TV and media units are made in sections sized to go up the stairs, into the lift and through the front door, and assembled and fitted in place. A lease can require consent before you fix furniture to the walls, so it’s worth checking first.
A written quote is the clearest record of what we’ve agreed. It sets out the TV unit designed for your room, its materials and its finish.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders
If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.
Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them during the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.
Flat-pack or bespoke?
If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder.
The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
What it’s made from
Birch plywood
We often use birch plywood for carcasses and drawers. Its layered edge can be painted or shown.
Spray-painted finish
A sprayed coat covers edges and corners well and leaves no brush marks. You choose the colour at the design stage.

How we price TV and media units
The price for your room depends on:
- How square the room is
- The width and height of the space
- The number of doors and drawers
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
Getting to the room affects the job as well. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, which the quote allows for. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit.
Before the design visit
The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. It’s useful to include:
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
- The type of home and how the room is reached
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, when we’ve measured up and talked through the design. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.
