Fitted Wardrobes in Angel
Thinking about fitted wardrobes in Angel? It starts with a design visit to measure and talk through ideas, then a quote in writing.
- Too little room for clothes
- Gaps above and around standalone wardrobes
- Storage boxes stacked under the bed
Fitted wardrobes in Angel
Fitted wardrobes for homes in Angel
Some bedrooms suit wardrobes that wrap around the bed, with cupboards each side and a run of storage above the headboard. Others work around a window, with a dressing table or seat in between. We plan the layout so the room still feels open. People usually come to us about no space in front for doors to swing and wardrobes that are full to bursting; the furniture is made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Most households around Angel live in purpose-built flats, and in a flat, bedrooms rarely have space to spare. Taking fitted furniture up to the ceiling adds storage without using more floor. The furniture is built in sections that fit the route into the flat, and assembled once it’s inside.
Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders
If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so it is worth raising during the design visit.
If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. An agent can arrange access for you, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
Fitted wardrobes for homes in Angel
Homes built before 1919 make up about 39% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Angel, with about 23% built between 1945 and 1972, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. That matters for fitted wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. There are 344 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Angel. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and fitted wardrobes can be designed to work around them. Streets close to central London are often narrow and busy, with loading bays in short supply, so the route from the van to your door is planned beforehand, especially for larger pieces.
If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Sadler House, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent. If your children go to St John Evangelist RC Primary School or a school nearby, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller.
Angel is within the London Borough of Islington, about 1 mile north of Highbury. Design visits and fitting in Angel can be on a Saturday, by prior arrangement. Our work takes in places right across Islington.
We cover every part of the N1, N1P and EC1V postcode area. Streets in the area include City Road, Noel Road and Dewey Road, and we cover homes on all of them for fitted wardrobes. Angel is near the A501; on busy main roads, unloading fitted wardrobes takes a little planning. We also cover Pentonville (1 mile north-east), Clerkenwell (1 mile south), Islington (1 mile north), St Pancras (1 mile south-west) and Kings Cross (1 mile west). Other parts of Islington we cover include Holloway (2 miles north), Mildmay (2 miles north-east), Upper Holloway (3 miles north-west), Nag's Head (2 miles north), Newington Green (2 miles north-east) and Tufnell Park (2 miles north-west).
Local landmarks in Angel
Around Angel, we cover homes near Pilsudski Institute of London, Elizabeth Garrett Anderson School and The Angel pub and the streets around them. For rail, the closest station is London Kings Cross station, about 0.7 miles west of the centre. A little further out are Brunswick Centre (0.9 miles south-west) and Finsbury Health Centre (0.5 miles south). Not far away are Barnsbury Wood and Ludgate Hill.
Is it time for fitted wardrobes?
Couples often want storage that works for two. We can plan separate sections for each person.
Typical reasons people contact us include:
- No space in front for doors to swing
- Condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall
- Mismatched bedroom furniture
- Gaps above and around standalone wardrobes
For a flat near London Kings Cross station, fitted wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.
Before you choose who makes it
- Will the quote be in writing?
- How the furniture will be finished, and where
- Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
- Will they visit to measure before quoting?
Bespoke fitted wardrobes or ready-made?
Off-the-shelf wardrobes are cheaper to buy and easy to take with you. If you are renting or moving soon, that may matter most. Fitted wardrobes stay with the room. Big standalone units do not always fit the lift or the turn on the stairs, while fitted furniture arrives in sections sized for the route. The sections are assembled once inside.
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

Your questions about fitted wardrobes in Angel
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Angel?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking at the measuring visit.
Will a conservation area stop me having fitted wardrobes fitted in Angel?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can require listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Can fitted wardrobes go either side of the bed?
Yes. Wardrobes can sit either side of the bed with a bridge of cupboards above. It is planned so there is room around the bed and the room does not feel enclosed.
How do I get started?
It is easiest to tell us about the room on our contact form and tell us about the room. We then arrange a design visit, measure up and send a written quote.
Do you cover areas outside London?
No. We work in London and nowhere else, across all the boroughs and the City of London.
How do you get fitted wardrobes into a flat?
We make the wardrobes in sections sized to the route into your home. We measure the stairs, landings and lift as well as the bedroom. If you’re in a leasehold flat, check your lease before fixing furniture to walls.
Pricing fitted wardrobes in Angel
Each piece is designed for one room, so each price is too. What affects it comes down to:
- How many doors and drawers there are
- The width and height of the space
- Parking and unloading on your street
- Spray painting or hand painting
What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside, and the quote follows.
Helping us understand the room
To help us picture the room, please include:
- The type of home and how the room is reached
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
- Rough sizes: width, height and depth
A quote begins with a few details from you: the room, rough measurements and some pictures if you have them. To send them, fill in our short enquiry form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

Fitting day, step by step
You are welcome to ask questions while we work. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Some buildings have a concierge, a lift booking system or set working hours, so check them with the managing agent before fitting day. Communal areas and floors are protected on the way in.
- To begin, get in touch through our contact form; a brief note on the bedroom and what you need to store is enough.
- We visit to measure up and work out the inside with you, from rail heights to drawer depths.
- A quote in writing follows, listing the layout inside, the doors and the finish.
- The wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, ready for the rails, shelves and drawers you chose.
- We fit the wardrobes in your home, then put in the rails, shelves and drawers at the heights we agreed.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
Getting a quote
If you know what you want, say so; if you don’t, that is fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, use our contact form.
