TV and media units in St Pancras
A built-in TV wall often needs sockets in new places, like behind the screen or in the equipment cupboard. That job is for your electrician. It is best done before we fit. If you’re living with wasted space around the screen and boxes with no ventilation, that is what TV and media units are for, made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
Getting long pieces into a flat often takes the most planning. With purpose-built flats home to most households around St Pancras, TV and media units are designed in sections from the start. Joins are positioned so they’re hidden once everything is in place.
The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the TV unit designed for your room, what it is made from and how it is finished, and it is what the workshop builds to.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Standalone TV units cost less and arrive quickly. It’s also easy to replace a stand when your equipment changes, which is a fair point in its favour. A built-in unit is planned for your room and your equipment. Large ready-made pieces can be hard to get up the stairs or into the lift, whereas fitted furniture comes in sections made for the way in. The sections are assembled once inside.
In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension near your home. It helps to talk about parking at the design visit.

Living-room storage in St Pancras
About 41% of the homes in the neighbourhood around St Pancras went up before 1919, and about 19% since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. St Pancras is partly covered by the Bloomsbury Conservation Area, according to Historic England’s records. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. The council can confirm if you’re not sure. Much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones run by the boroughs. That normally means a van in St Pancras needs a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council. It helps to let us know about parking at the design visit.
Dr Johnson's House, about 0.9 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, picture rails and cornices give TV and media units a line to finish at. If you live in a period home close to Lumen United Reformed Church, walls that bow and floors that slope are why TV and media units are scribed to fit rather than pushed into place.
St Pancras is part of the London Borough of Camden. We design and make TV and media units for homes in St Pancras, as part of our work in every London borough. In Camden, St Pancras is one of the places we cover, and the borough has 28 places on our list.
Postcode districts we cover here for TV and media units: NW1W, W1T and N1. If your home is on a street like Shoe Lane, Long Lane and City Road, or close by, we can visit to measure up for TV and media units. St Pancras is near the A4 and A40; on busy main roads, unloading TV and media units takes a little planning. We also cover the places around St Pancras: Bloomsbury (1 mile south-west), Kings Cross (1 mile north-west), Holborn (1 mile south-east), Clerkenwell (1 mile east) and Angel (1 mile north-east). We also make TV and media units in nearby places like Hampstead (3 miles north-west), West Hampstead (4 miles north-west), Kentish Town (2 miles north-west), Greenhill (3 miles north-west), Chalk Farm (2 miles north-west) and Dartmouth Park (3 miles north-west). Being one of the larger places in Camden, St Pancras is covered for all of our fitted furniture.

Questions we’re often asked
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
Is parking a problem for fitting in St Pancras?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
We need access, so someone has to let us in. You do not need to watch us work, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.
Will you paint the walls around the furniture?
No. We make, fit and finish the furniture, and plastering and decorating are for other trades. The furniture itself is spray painted or hand painted.
Can you plan for a future TV?
If you’re likely to upgrade, we can leave room for it. Tell us the size you have in mind so the space and cable routes suit it.
What finishes do you offer?
There are two choices: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. Your quote sets out which you’ve chosen.
Do you need TV and media units in St Pancras?
Open-plan living is another reason. Built-in furniture makes that wall look planned and adds storage for the rest of the room.
Common reasons to get in touch include:
- Games, controllers and remotes everywhere
- Cables trailing across the wall
- Equipment running hot in a closed cupboard
- A TV that looks out of place in the room
Near listed buildings like Church of St Pancras, about 0.5 miles west of the centre of St Pancras, older homes may keep original joinery that TV and media units can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.
Choosing a carpenter
- Will the quote be in writing?
- Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done
- How doors and drawers are fitted
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
Flats, blocks and rented homes
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there is a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you contact us.
Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Tell us about them at the measuring visit, so fitting day is planned around them.
Before and after fitting day
Most of what helps is simple. What we’d suggest:
- Choose how the TV will sit before the design is finished
- Note the screen size you have or plan to buy
- Let us know about parking and access at the measuring visit
- List every box, console and speaker that needs a home
After setting up, check that the boxes are not getting too warm. Keep vents, gaps and open backs clear of cables and clutter.
Do not let clutter build up against the unit’s vents as things change.
How fitting day works
Finishing comes last. With a spray finish from the workshop, there is typically only filling and touching up to do in the room; hand painting, if that is what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. Loading near a block of flats can take some planning, so let us know about bays, permits or any loading area at the measuring visit. The sections are assembled in the flat and fixed to suit the walls. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.
- You describe the TV wall and your equipment.
- We come to measure and talk through screen height, speakers and cables, with ventilation for boxes and amplifiers.
- We put the design, materials and finish into a quote in writing. If anything in it is unclear, ask us.
- We then make the unit in our workshop, with cable routes planned in.
- The unit is fitted in your home, ready for your equipment, with the cable routes left clear.
Preparing the room
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
How to get a quote
