TV and Media Units in Angell Town

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make TV and media units for homes in Angell Town, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • Equipment with nowhere proper to go
  • Boxes with no ventilation
  • Standard units leaving gaps

Tips worth knowing

Looking after painted furniture is simple. A few things help it stay looking good:

  • List every box, console and speaker that needs a home
  • Note the screen size you have or plan to buy
  • Mention parking and stairs when we visit
  • Find out how much space each box needs around it

Painted finishes feel dry quickly but take longer to cure fully. For the first while, place equipment gently rather than sliding it to avoid marks.

Tag each lead at both ends.

Media equipment warms up as it runs, so sealing equipment in a cupboard is not a good idea. Ventilation is planned into the design, with open backs, gaps or vented doors where they’re needed. Equipment makers often say how much space their boxes need around them. If your home has games, controllers and remotes everywhere and boxes with no ventilation, TV and media units made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

Mansion block flats tend to have tall ceilings and walls that wander, whereas newer blocks are more likely to have plasterboard partitions. Most households around Angell Town live in purpose-built flats, old or new, so we check what each wall is made of before planning TV and media units. Whatever the wall, tall pieces are fixed back securely.

Our quotes are written in plain words, without jargon. You’ll see what will be made, the boards used and the finish, all taken from the design visit.

The problems TV and media units solve

Most people come to us because of the cables. Leads trail from the TV to the boxes, the sockets and the speakers and nothing off the shelf hides them all. Built-in units give cables somewhere to go.

These come up often when people first get in touch:

  • Leads that show from every angle
  • A TV that looks out of place in the room
  • Boxes with no ventilation
  • A TV stand that doesn’t fit the wall

If you live in a flat close to Loughborough Junction station, TV and media units are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.

Choosing a carpenter

  • Are the boards named, like MDF or plywood?
  • A written quote that sets out the job
  • Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
  • Will the doors close with even gaps?

Choosing a carpenter in London: a checklist

How we price TV and media units

What you pay depends on:

  • How square the room is
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside

How it’s painted is part of the price: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

What we need to know

What helps most when you first contact us:

  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • Any ideas or images you’ve saved
  • Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
  • Approximate measurements of the space

Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space, along with rough measurements. To share them, send us a few details through our contact form, and we will suggest a time for a design visit.

Angell Town homes and TV and media units

Homes built before 1919 make up about 38% of the housing in the area around Angell Town, with about 19% built between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Angell Town include Church of St John the Divine (Grade I), about 0.6 miles north, and Christ Church (Grade II*), about 0.6 miles north. For a listed home, internal works that affect its character can need listed building consent from the council, for instance removing or fixing into original panelling. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. The ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) now covers the whole of London, Lambeth included. It applies to every van that comes to fit furniture in Angell Town. We go through parking and access during the design visit.

If you live near Max Roach Park, TV and media units can be arranged to keep the window and the light clear. If your children go to St John's Angell Town Church of England Primary School or a school nearby, low doors that small hands can open, with books and ornaments higher up, suit a busy family room.

Angell Town is about 1 mile west of Stockwell, within the London Borough of Lambeth. We cover Angell Town as part of our work across Lambeth. We cover places right across Lambeth, from the busiest high streets to quiet residential roads.

We cover every part of SW9, SE5 and SE24 for TV and media units. Our area takes in homes on streets such as Lorn Road, Minet Road and Henry Road, for TV and media units and any of our other fitted furniture. Other places close to Angell Town include North Brixton (1 mile north), Loughborough Junction (1 mile south-east), Stockwell (1 mile west), Little Portugal (1 mile north-west) and South Lambeth (1 mile north-west). We also make TV and media units in nearby places like Streatham (3 miles south), West Norwood (3 miles south), South Bank (2 miles north), Waterloo (2 miles north), Gipsy Hill (3 miles south) and Streatham Hill (2 miles south).

What happens on fitting day

You are welcome to ask questions while we work. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving the room tidy. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Parking near blocks of flats can be limited, and loading may need planning, so tell us about bays, permits or any loading area at the measuring visit. The sections are assembled in the flat and fixed to suit the walls. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.

  1. You get in touch with details of the room and where it is in your home.
  2. We visit to plan the unit and check the way in. Let us know about parking too, since a van may need a visitor permit or a paid bay.
  3. We send a quote in writing.
  4. The unit is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections that fit the route in.
  5. The sections are carried in, assembled and set level, ready for your equipment.

Before we arrive

  • Keep pets in another room while we work
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone

How to get a quote

To get a quote, send us a few details through our contact form and tell us which room you have in mind and roughly what you’d like. We then arrange a design visit to measure and talk through the design, and send you a written quote afterwards.

Questions from Angell Town

Do you cover homes near Loughborough Junction station?

Yes, homes across Lambeth and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with some details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Will a conservation area stop me having TV and media units fitted in Angell Town?

Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.

Can you build a TV unit for a wall-mounted TV?

We can plan for either a wall-mounted TV or one standing on the unit. If the TV is wall-mounted, panels and shelves are arranged around the bracket and cables or we size the top for a TV that stands on it.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, Saturdays are possible by arrangement. Let us know when you first get in touch.

What if I buy a larger TV?

We can plan the opening with a bigger screen in mind so the unit suits your next set. Tell us the size you might move to at the measuring visit.

Do photos help?

Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot, especially with rough measurements. To send them, message us from the contact page.

What we don’t do

We design, make and fit the furniture. In practice, that means:

  • Any electrical work (your electrician handles that, and Part P covers some of it)
  • Painting the walls and ceiling
  • Setting up and tuning the TV, boxes and speakers

If in doubt, you can use our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.
