TV and media units in Stockwell
Where the TV will be wall-mounted, the unit is designed around where the bracket goes, with a route for the cables behind the screen. If it stands on the unit, we size the top to suit, with the cables kept out of sight. We make TV and media units from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the things people most often want solved are a big screen that dominates the wall and somewhere to keep games tidy.
In a flat, one room often does the work of a living room, dining room and study. Most households around Stockwell live in purpose-built flats, so TV and media units that make use of the wall height are worth considering. A shallow run on one wall can hold a lot without taking much floor.
The quote comes in writing, so you can read it at your own pace. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Is bespoke worth it?
Off-the-shelf TV units come in a few set colours. We paint ours in the colour you choose, by spray or by hand. Standalone furniture takes up floor without using the height of the room. Fitted furniture can go to the ceiling and fill a recess exactly, leaving more floor clear.
No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.
Why choose us
- Made for your room, not a standard size
- More than 300 projects completed
- Spray painted or hand painted, in the colour you choose
- Saturdays by arrangement
Where other trades come in
Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. That means:
- Installing aerials, satellite dishes or broadband
- Structural changes to the wall
- Plastering or decorating around the unit

When is bespoke worth it?
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that are not square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.
The problems TV and media units solve
A new, larger TV often prompts it. The old stand looks too small, or the screen dominates the wall. A unit around it puts it in proportion.
Most of the enquiries we get are about things like these:
- Clutter around the TV
- Cables trailing across the wall
- Speakers muffled behind doors
- A cabinet that traps heat
For families living near St Andrew's Church of England Primary School, a cupboard for board games and a shelf for reading books can go into the same design.

TV and media units for homes in Stockwell
In the area around Stockwell, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 36%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 24%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. There are 132 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Stockwell. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. TfL’s Ultra Low Emission Zone covers every part of London, Lambeth included. So any van that delivers or fits furniture in Stockwell is covered by it. Parking and access are planned at the design visit.
Living in a block of flats near Brixton station? Then it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. Near listed buildings like Stockwell Green United Reformed Church, less than half a mile south-east of the centre of Stockwell, older homes may keep original joinery that TV and media units can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent.
Stockwell is part of the London Borough of Lambeth. Design visits and fitting in Stockwell can be on a Saturday, by prior arrangement. We cover places right across Lambeth, large and small.
Design visits and fitting in SW9, SW4 and SW8 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. Our area takes in homes on streets such as Kay Road, West Road and Cato Road, along with the roads around them, for TV and media units and any of our other fitted furniture. Stockwell sits close to the A203 and A2217. We also cover Little Portugal (1 mile north), Angell Town (1 mile east), North Brixton (1 mile north-east), South Lambeth (1 mile north) and Clapham (1 mile west). Elsewhere in Lambeth, we also cover Streatham (3 miles south), West Norwood (3 miles south), South Bank (3 miles north), Waterloo (2 miles north), Vauxhall (2 miles north) and Lambeth (2 miles north). Stockwell’s nearest station is Brixton station, roughly 0.5 miles south-east of the centre. Nearby you’ll also find St Giles' Hospital (1.7 miles east). For a walk, there’s Battersea Park Lake.
Your questions about TV and media units in Stockwell
My home in Stockwell is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?
At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
How long does it take to fit a TV unit?
The fitting depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. The unit is built in our workshop first, so the time in your home is mostly fitting and finishing.
Should I send photos?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit, along with rough sizes. Show anything the furniture has to work around, like radiators or sockets.
What happens when you come to measure?
We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and talk through the design with you. We’ll also ask about access and parking, and a quote in writing follows.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Just mention it when you get in touch, and we’ll see what we can do.
From workshop to your room
Finishing comes last. With a spray finish from the workshop, there’s usually only filling and touching up to do in the room; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. Parking near blocks of flats can be limited, and loading may need planning, so tell us about bays, permits or any loading area at the design visit. Once inside, the sections are joined and fixed with fixings that suit the wall. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.
- You send us some details about the TV, the boxes and the speakers you use, including the size of the screen.
- At the design visit, we measure up and plan the screen space, cable routes and ventilation with you. New sockets or wiring are for your electrician, so it’s useful to have them in mind early.
- Your quote follows, with the design, materials and finish set out.
- Each section is built in our workshop to the measurements we took.
- We fit it in your home, with the cable routes ready to use. We check the doors and shelves with you before we leave.
How to prepare
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician beforehand
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
- Empty the space we’ll be working in
