Waterloo TV and Media Units
In Waterloo, we design TV and media units around the room you actually have. Your TV unit is designed at a visit to your home and built in our workshop.
- Empty alcoves beside the TV
- Speakers muffled behind doors
- Boxes and consoles on the floor
TV and media units designed for your room
Looking after your furniture
People planning TV and media units often ask about these. They help whatever the room:
- Mention parking and stairs when we visit
- Think about the viewing height from your sofa
- Note the size of each box and speaker
- Note which boxes need line of sight for their remotes
Doors can settle a little once the unit is in use. Most hinges can be adjusted to bring a door back in line.
Tag each lead at both ends, so changes later are simple.
TV and media units for homes in Waterloo
If the TV is wall-mounted, we plan the panels and shelves around the bracket position and the cable route behind it. If the TV stands on the unit instead, the top is sized and positioned for it, with the cables kept out of sight. People normally come to us about a screen at the wrong height and boxes and consoles on the floor, and the answer is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
In a home built since 2000, the aerial point and sockets are normally already fixed in place. A good number of homes around Waterloo went up since 2000, so we design TV and media units around the existing points rather than moving them. Any new socket is a job for your electrician.
Everything we agree at the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

Flats, leases and landlords
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, once we have measured the way in.
Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them at the measuring visit, and we will plan the fitting around them.

Living-room carpentry in Waterloo: local notes
About 43% of the homes in the streets around Waterloo went up since 2000, and about 18% before 1919, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Waterloo is partly covered by the Lower Marsh Conservation Area, according to Historic England’s records. The controls in a conservation area are mostly about the outside of buildings, so furniture fitted inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Your council can advise if you’re unsure. Fewer homes around Waterloo date from before 1919 than across Lambeth: about 18%, against about 40%, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. So the walls behind TV and media units here are more likely to be later brick, block or plasterboard, and they’re checked at the measuring visit.
For families living near Oasis Academy Johanna, low doors that small hands can open, with books and ornaments higher up, suit a busy family room. Benjamin Franklin House, about 0.7 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, walls that bow and floors that slope are why TV and media units are scribed to fit rather than pushed into place. Near listed buildings like Royal Festival Hall, less than half a mile north-west of the centre of Waterloo, older homes may keep original joinery that TV and media units can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.
Waterloo is about 2 miles south of Stockwell, in the London Borough of Lambeth. Waterloo is part of the area we cover, and the process is the same everywhere we work. Our Lambeth coverage includes Waterloo and the places around it.
In SE1, SE11 and WC2N, the process is the same as anywhere else in London. If your home is on a street like York Road, Spur Road and Bear Lane, or close by, we can visit to measure up for TV and media units. Waterloo is near the A301 and A302, so if your home is on a main road, mention it when you contact us. Neighbouring places we cover for TV and media units include South Bank (1 mile north-west), Bankside (1 mile north-east), Adelphi (1 mile north-west), Temple (1 mile north) and Charing Cross (1 mile north-west). Elsewhere in Lambeth, we also cover Stockwell (2 miles south), Streatham (5 miles south), West Norwood (5 miles south), North Brixton (2 miles south), Little Portugal (2 miles south) and Clapham (3 miles south-west).
Around Waterloo
Around Waterloo, we cover homes near The Duke of Sussex pub, Lambeth Palace Library and Oasis Academy South Bank, among other places. Waterloo has its own railway station: London Waterloo station. Well-known places in the area include General Lying-In Hospital (within half a mile west) and Gabriel's Wharf (0.5 miles north). Open spaces near Waterloo include St. James's Park Lake and Ludgate Hill.
From workshop to your room
When the fitting is done, we tidy the room. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together and answer any questions. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and how many cupboards and shelves it has, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Walls in newer homes are often plasterboard on studs, so on fitting day heavy pieces go into the studs or stand on the floor. Floors are covered while we work, and dust is kept to a minimum.
- You get in touch about a built-in TV unit, and where the sockets are now.
- We visit to measure, note the sockets and agree where everything will go.
- We send a quote in writing with the design, materials and finish, for you to look over.
- We build the unit in our workshop, with routes and ventilation planned in.
- Fitting day: the unit goes in, is levelled and scribed, and the cable routes are left clear. A hand-painted finish is done on site, if you chose one.
Before we arrive
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
Ask for a quote
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, when we’ve measured up and talked through the design. For a quote, use our contact form.
Advice
Your questions about TV and media units in Waterloo
Can you make TV and media units for a home in Waterloo?
Yes. Waterloo is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Lambeth and London. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with some details.
I live in a flat in Waterloo. How will the furniture get up the stairs?
We measure the route in not just the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.
How do I get a quote?
The first step is to fill in our short enquiry form and tell us about the room. We then arrange a design visit, measure up and send a written quote.
How do you stop equipment overheating in a TV unit?
Equipment gives off heat, so it needs air around it. The unit is planned with open backs or gaps where boxes go. Once it is in, do not block the gaps.
How long will the fitting take?
The fitting depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. The unit is made in our workshop first, so the time in your home is mostly fitting and finishing.
Does the unit work if the TV is on a bracket?
If the TV is wall-mounted, we design the unit around the bracket position. The bracket needs a sound wall so we check the wall during the design visit.
What we don’t do
We’d rather be clear about where our work stops:
- Painting the walls and ceiling
- Installing aerials, satellite dishes or broadband
- New sockets behind the TV, which need an electrician
If in doubt, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

Flat-pack or bespoke?
Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t usually do that in an older room.
