Fitted wardrobes in Angell Town: what you get
Rooms under a slope are common in loft conversions and top-floor rooms. A fitted wardrobe can follow the slope, with long hanging at the tall end and shelves or drawers where it gets lower. It turns an tricky corner into storage. Most enquiries start with bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes and musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall; the furniture is made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Most homes around Angell Town are purpose-built flats, whether in mansion blocks or newer developments. In a mansion block, bedrooms often keep their chimney breasts and tall ceilings, while modern flats tend to have plasterboard partitions. Either way, fitted wardrobes are fixed to suit the wall.
You get the quote in writing, so there’s time to read it properly and talk it over at home. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

Flats, conversions and lettings
In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. We choose fixings to suit the wall, after checking the walls at the design visit.
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We cannot give advice on leases.
Looking after your furniture
A few practical points help before and after fitting day. These are worth keeping in mind:
- Think about where you’ll keep shoes, bags and folded clothes
- In a leasehold flat, read the lease first
- Check how much space there is in front for doors to open
- Let us know about the lift and stairs in your block
Leave a little space between clothes and the back of the wardrobe where the wardrobe sits on an outside wall. Air moving through helps avoid condensation and mould.
Make sure vents at the top or bottom of the wardrobe aren’t blocked. Look out for a musty smell or spots on clothes.

Questions we’re often asked
How do you fit fitted wardrobes in a flat in Angell Town?
At the design visit, we measure the way in as well as the room. Fitted wardrobes are made in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
Does a conservation area in or near Angell Town affect fitted furniture?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Can a fitted wardrobe go against a cold wall?
Yes. Wardrobes on outside walls are designed with ventilation behind and inside. Any existing damp needs dealing with before fitting.
Who chooses the colour?
You do. We agree the colour with you before anything is painted.
How long are you in the house for fitting?
The time on site depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. We’ll talk you through what to expect beforehand.
Do you move sockets or add lighting?
No. Electrical work is not something we do; it is a job for your electrician. We can plan cable routes into the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.
What happens on fitting day
Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it’s going into, and fitting day is where that happens. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, until the line is tight. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Loading near a block of flats can take some planning, so details of bays, permits or a loading area help. Once inside, the sections are joined and fixed with fixings that suit the wall. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Standalone wardrobes cost less to buy and can come with you when you move. That is a real advantage if you are renting or moving soon. Fitted wardrobes stay with the room and are made for that room alone. In a flat, every bit of floor counts, and standalone furniture uses more of it than it needs. Built-in pieces use the full height and the awkward corners.
How it’s painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.
