Limehouse TV and Media Units

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on TV and media units in Limehouse starts with a design visit, and everything is made in our workshop.

  • Alcoves either side of the chimney breast going to waste
  • A cabinet that traps heat
  • Cables trailing across the wall

Why people ask for TV and media units in Limehouse

In an open-plan space, the TV wall is on show from everywhere. A built-in unit gives that wall order and adds storage for the rest of the room.

Here’s what TV and media units can help with:

  • A big screen that dominates the wall
  • Standard units leaving gaps
  • Games, controllers and remotes everywhere
  • Set-top boxes stacked on a stand

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work
  • Whether the finish is set out in the quote
  • Whether you’ll get a quote in writing, not just a figure
  • Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done

How we make TV and media units for Limehouse

Everything starts with the screen. The opening is planned around your current TV, or a bigger one if you are likely to upgrade, with room around it so it doesn’t look squeezed. Viewing height matters too: we set it to suit the sofa, not the shape of the wall. We make TV and media units from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are alcoves either side of the chimney breast going to waste and a tangle of wires behind the TV.

A large share of the homes around Limehouse date from 2000 onwards, and newer homes rarely come with any built-in shelving or media storage. TV and media units can be planned around where the sockets and aerial points already are, with routes for cables designed in. Walls in newer homes are often plasterboard on studs, which is fine for fitted furniture when the fixings are right.

After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so it’s clear what’s included.

How fitting day works

Fitting day follows a set order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Newer homes often have stud walls, so fixings go into the studs or use fixings made for the board. Floors are covered while we work.

  1. You describe the TV wall and your equipment.
  2. A design visit follows, where we measure and agree the layout.
  3. A quote in writing follows. If anything in it is unclear, ask us.
  4. We then make the unit in our workshop.
  5. The unit is fitted in your home, ready for your equipment, with the cable routes left clear.

Before we arrive

  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to

Starting with a design visit

We quote once we have seen the room. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a written quote. Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. To book a design visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Why bespoke in Limehouse?

Not every bought cabinet allows enough air for warm equipment. Ventilation is designed in where equipment sits, with open backs, gaps or vented doors. In a compact new-build room, standard sizes rarely fit the walls exactly, and fitted furniture uses that space. It works around service boxing too.

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. A larger piece means more material and more time. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

What you get with us

  • Spray painted or hand painted, in the colour you choose
  • We work across all London boroughs
  • More than 300 projects completed
  • Built around your room

See how bespoke compares with ready-made or what a quote should include.

What it costs

Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. These are the things that affect it:

  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • Parking near your home
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside, then set it out in the quote.

Before the design visit

The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. When you get in touch, it’s useful to send:

  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

To make a start, tell us about the room on our contact form and tell us a little about the room. We then arrange a design visit to measure and talk through the design, and send you a written quote afterwards.

What we do not do

We design, make and fit the furniture. That means:

  • Plastering or decorating around the unit
  • Connecting the TV signal or internet
  • Taking out a fireplace or chimney breast

If in doubt, you can drop us a line using the contact form and describe the room. How it works.

What goes into it

  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Birch plywood
  • Ventilated cabinets
  • Cable routes

TV and media units for homes in Limehouse

Homes built since 2000 make up about 42% of the housing in the streets around Limehouse, with about 24% built between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. 21 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of central Limehouse. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. About 42% of homes in the area around Limehouse were built since 2000, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. In homes built since 2000, living rooms are often open-plan with stud walls, so the fixings go into the studs, or heavier pieces stand on the floor.

If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Church of St Anne, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. If you live in a period home close to St Paul's Bow Common, picture rails and cornices give TV and media units a line to finish at.

Questions from Limehouse

Do you make TV and media units for homes in Limehouse?

Yes, we work across Tower Hamlets, Limehouse included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can use our contact form with a few details.

My home in Limehouse is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

We measure the route in not just the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It is useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

My walls aren’t straight. Is that a problem?

Uneven walls are normal in older London homes, and the furniture is made to deal with them. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. You do not need to watch us work, but it helps to be around at the end.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

There are two choices: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. Your quote sets out which you have chosen.

Where should speakers go in a TV unit?

Speakers sound better in the open than shut in a cupboard. A soundbar can sit on a shelf below the screen, and larger speakers suit open shelves at the sides. Tell us the speaker sizes when we visit.
