Broom Hill TV and Media Units
We make TV and media units for homes in Broom Hill, designed around the room you have. Your TV unit is designed at a visit to your home and built in our workshop.
- A TV that looks out of place in the room
- A tangle of wires behind the TV
- Wasted space around the screen

Looking after your furniture
Fitted furniture is part of the room, so it’s worth looking after. A few pointers help:
- Think about whether you will upgrade the screen
- Look at what the equipment makers say about airflow
- Tell us about parking and access at the design visit
- Decide where you will sit, so the screen height suits it
When you change equipment, use the cable routes we planned rather than drilling new holes. It keeps everything neat.
Heavy equipment is best kept low, and no single shelf overloaded.
TV and media units in Broom Hill: what you get
Speakers need space to be heard properly. A soundbar typically sits just below the TV, while larger speakers suit open shelves at the sides. Closing speakers in a cupboard muffles them, so we leave open bays for them. People normally come to us about nowhere good for speakers and standard units leaving gaps, and the answer is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
Plenty of semis and interwar houses have been extended at the back or had the back rooms knocked through, which matters around Broom Hill, where homes like these are a big part of the housing. In a long knocked-through room, TV and media units can run the full length of one wall. An extension’s plasterboard walls need different fixings from the original brick or block.
We write quotes in plain English, without jargon. You’ll see what will be made, the boards used and the finish, taken from what we agreed at the visit.

Living-room storage in Broom Hill
The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Broom Hill were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 39%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 31%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Broom Hill include Church of All Saints (Grade II*), less than half a mile south-east, and Perry Hall Farmhouse (Grade II), less than half a mile north-west. If your own home is listed, works inside that affect its character, such as fixing into or removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. It’s worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. On TfL’s red routes, the rules on stopping and loading are strict. If your home is on or just off a main road, it helps to mention it. We will plan where the van can stop.
For a flat near Orpington station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in. For families living near Perry Hall Primary School, a cupboard for board games and a shelf for reading books can go into the same design. Close to Jubilee Country Park? Shelving that stops short of the window keeps the view of the green.

How fitting works for TV and media units
Fitting day follows a set order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Spray-painted pieces come finished from the workshop, while hand painting can happen on site. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.
- It starts with a short note from you about the TV wall.
- At the design visit we measure the wall and also the hall, stairs and doorways the unit has to pass through.
- We send a quote in writing.
- The unit is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections that fit the route in.
- The sections are carried in, assembled and set level, ready for your equipment.
Preparing the room
- Let us know about parking near your home
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Tell us about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
Starting with a design visit
The quote is built from the design visit. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A written quote follows the visit, so you can take your time with it. To arrange the visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
Flats, blocks and rented homes
A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it.
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, and that is best sorted before fitting day. We can’t advise on your lease, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.
Questions from Broom Hill
Will a conservation area stop me having TV and media units fitted in Broom Hill?
Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can require listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Orpington station?
Yes. We cover all of Bromley and the rest of London. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with a few details about the room.
Can a built-in unit hide all the wires?
That’s the aim, and it’s planned from the start. Routes, openings and removable panels let you add or change leads later. If the TV is wall-mounted, we plan a route behind the screen.
How do I get started?
Simply tell us about the room on our contact form. It helps to send rough measurements and a few photos, and we will arrange a design visit.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. We’ll also ask about access and parking, and afterwards we send a written quote.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, by arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you get in touch.
How we price TV and media units
What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. The main factors are:
- The number of doors and drawers
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
We don’t publish set prices, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To arrange a design visit, fill in our short enquiry form.
What to send when you contact us
To help us picture the room, please include:
- Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
- Examples of the look you’re after
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you don’t, that is fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, message us from the contact page.
